Ancestry Brewing + Ancestry Coffee have a new location on 43rd and Hawthorne! I had the honor of helping their architectural design team develop a massive window wrap. Freshly installed yesterday - check it out! Grab a coffee or beer - or both! - and hang out on their back patio too. Cheers, friends. 🍻☕️☕️

The Importance of Branding Your Business

Yes. This. This is what I do. Your brand is more than a logo; it's everything your business represents. We are inundated with messaging and, on average, it takes people 7-8 times of hearing or seeing something for our memory to recall it. If you are inconsistent in your representation, how can someone remember your business? Make your mark, and make it consistent.

Ahh, summer. ☀️ I love you in more ways than I can count. But you really infringe on the boundaries of parenthood and self-employment. The boy just said "My friends did 'take your kids to work day' with their parents. I never get to go to work with you!" My response: "I mostly work from home, dude - you go to work with me EVERY day! And right now you're all up in my business." 🙄

Wayback Machine

This website has saved the day for me on more than one occasion. Many web hosts offer built-in site backup tools, but site owners have to initiate them. If you don't know this from the get-go, you may never have an old record of your site to fall back on if things go awry. And they do. Wayback Machine keeps an online record of most sites and what their content was at any point during its online life. Amazing, I tell you. A great resource!

Proud Mom moment. Yesterday my 8 year old son came home with a plan. On paper. A plan for his personal brand and a design for his logo, apparel and merchandise. Now he’s ready to put the grandparents to work with ex*****on. I was giddy to say the least. He’s got better skills - and a better grasp on the process - than I do! Putting this one in the sketch book.

Great advice here on creating better habits to work smarter and design better. I'll be focusing on #3. And #4. Also, #9. For sure #10. Okay - all of them.

When you can design faster, it saves your employer or client money. When you learn how to speed things up the right way, you will be more valued and sought-after.

The pen tool in Adobe Illustrator is really the heart of the program. I do not fancy myself an artist, so my use of it has yet to be perfected. Today I discovered the smoothing pencil tool! Say what?! I can quickly smooth the bumps and jagged corners from a digital drawing that closely resembles one of my 2nd grade handcrafted art projects? I'm giddy. This is life changing, people.

This program is so robust and I know I only scratch its capabilities on the surface when I use it. What sort of tools have you discovered in Illustrator, or another Adobe program, that became game changers for you?
