The Easy Money Remix EP part 2 (Genosha Recordings 23) will have its digital and vinyl release this Friday! Each preview is accompanied by a mini interview with the remixers. The third remix on this release is by everyone’s favorite DJs: Mindustries!
Name: Mindustries // Remix: The Wandering Mind
*Why did you pick The Wandering Mind as your choice for the remix?
Well, first and foremost we've always loved the track and to remix it sounded like an interesting challenge. In addition to that, the '2001: A Space Odyssey' sample had always been in the back of our minds to use in a track, but somehow we never seemed to get it to fit right. Remixing 'The Wandering Mind' seemed like a good way to play with the sample after all.
The only bad thing about the track was the tempo. As everyone knows we hate downtempo stuff so we decided to throw a whopping extra 30 BPMs at it to make it a raging 140 BPM track.
With the remix we really wanted to emphasize two characteristics of the original track: the hypnotizing, haunting vocal sample and the pounding rawness of the track. We decided to split the track into two parts, with the intro focusing on the more atmospheric, hypnotizing element, and the second part taking care of the raw and pounding in-your-face elements.
Let's not forget to mention that we had a lot of fun working on this remix.
*What is your favorite word?
Nils: Damn… so many words to choose from. I'm gonna have to go with 'moeilijk'. In standard Dutch this means 'difficult', but around where we live it is also used as an adverb meaning 'incredibly' or 'extremely'. This doesn't translate into English very well, so you'll just have to take my word for it… and that word is 'moeilijk'.
Yuri: I tend to change that one every week. This week it's 'distinction', because it's nice to have this in your work.
*What is your favorite thing to do when you're not active in music?
Nils: Laughing, hanging out with my son, watching stand-up comedy, drawing, eating, spinning records with friends, and listening to music. Every now and then I like to play a video game, but these days that doesn't happen that often.
Yuri: Picking flowers, feeding the homeless, singing in the local choir, doing collections for the animal shelter, watching Little House. Oh yeah, and partying all night and drinking my ass off. But realistically, most of the time a lot of things in between those worlds.
*What do you really want the world to know about Mindustries?
It's all hardcore to us.
