Title: "Motivated by a Higher Calling"

Scripture:
Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Devotional:
Motivation can be elusive, especially when faced with challenges or mundane tasks. However, as followers of Christ, our motivation is not merely rooted in personal gain or worldly recognition. We are called to a higher purpose and a greater motivation: to work as if working for the Lord Himself.

In Colossians, Paul reminds us that whatever we do, we should do it with all our hearts, not as an obligation to human masters, but as an offering to God. Our motivation comes from the understanding that our work has eternal significance and that we are serving the Lord in all we do.

When our motivation is grounded in this truth, our perspective shifts. We no longer seek validation or success from the world alone, but we strive to honor God in our work. Whether it is in our careers, relationships, or daily responsibilities, we are driven by a desire to please Him and to be faithful stewards of the opportunities He has given us.

Motivation derived from a higher calling transforms our mindset. It helps us find purpose in the most menial tasks, knowing that even the smallest acts of service can glorify God. It fuels our determination in the face of adversity, knowing that our efforts are not in vain, and that our reward ultimately comes from the Lord.

In those moments when motivation wanes, let us remember the inheritance we have in Christ. The reward we receive is not based on worldly achievements or accolades, but on the faithfulness and dedication we display in our work for the Lord.

So, let us approach each day with renewed motivation, knowing that our actions have a profound impact when done for the glory of God. Let us be motivated not by self-interest or external validation, but by the love and grace of our Savior, who empowers us to fulfill our calling.

Happy Mother's Day!
Mothers of Faith: Power and Influence in the Bible

Scripture: Proverbs 31:25-26, 30 (NIV)
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue... Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."

Devotional:
The Bible is replete with stories of powerful and influential mothers who, through their faith and wisdom, significantly impacted the course of biblical history. These women, though they lived in vastly different times and circumstances, share a common trait – their fear of the Lord and faithfulness in fulfilling their roles.

Consider Jochebed, mother of Moses. Her courage and faith saved her son from Pharaoh's decree to kill all Hebrew baby boys, leading Moses to eventually lead the Israelites to freedom (Exodus 2:1-10). Then there's Hannah, who despite her barrenness, faithfully prayed for a child. God answered her prayer with Samuel, who became one of Israel's greatest prophets (1 Samuel 1:9-20).

Another powerful mother is Mary, the mother of Jesus. She humbly accepted the divine assignment of carrying the Savior of the world, enduring societal shame and raising her son with faith and wisdom. Her faith in God's promise marked her as "blessed among women" (Luke 1:42).

These mothers, clothed with strength, dignity, and wisdom, exemplify the virtues extolled in Proverbs 31. They feared the Lord and nurtured their children in faith, leaving lasting legacies. Their stories remind us that motherhood, though often challenging, is a powerful platform for influence and godly impact.

As we honor these mothers of faith, let us also appreciate and pray for the mothers in our lives. Whether they are our biological mothers, spiritual mothers, or mother figures, their influence, prayers, and sacrifices have shaped us in countless ways. May we learn from their wisdom, celebrate their strength, and follow in their footsteps of faith.

Prayer:
"Lord, we thank You for the mothers of faith in our lives. Strengthen them, bless them, and let their lives continue to be a testament to Your grace and love. Amen."

Reflection:
Reflect on the powerful mothers or mother figures in your life. How has their faith influenced your spiritual journey, and how can you honor them today?

Meeting Jesus at the Altar of Surrender

Scripture: Hebrews 4:14-16 (NIV)
"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

Devotional:
In the book of Hebrews, we find an invitation to meet Jesus at the altar of surrender, where grace and mercy are freely given. The altar represents a place of communion and sacrifice, a meeting point between humanity and divinity. When we approach this spiritual altar, we are not only recognizing our need for God but also expressing our readiness to surrender our burdens, sins, and struggles.

Jesus, our high priest, ascended into heaven and yet remains intimately acquainted with our human condition. He understands our weaknesses, having himself been subjected to all forms of temptation, yet without sin. This profound empathy He offers enables us to approach Him with confidence, knowing that He understands our trials and tribulations.

At the altar, we come face-to-face with the depth of Jesus' love and compassion. We find Him waiting, arms open wide, ready to give us the mercy and grace we need. We meet a Savior who does not condemn but comforts, who does not reject but embraces. At the altar, we find a refuge, a safe place where our vulnerabilities are met with divine compassion.

Meeting Jesus at the altar requires us to be open and transparent, laying bare our souls and exposing our deepest fears and failings. It is a meeting of surrender, where we submit our will to His, trusting that His plans are far better than ours. It is here we discover the transformative power of His love, which is capable of turning our ashes into beauty, our sorrow into joy, and our brokenness into wholeness.

As we approach the altar, let us do so with a heart ready to receive and a spirit willing to surrender. For it is in this act of surrender that we truly encounter Jesus, the source of mercy, grace, and abundant love.

Prayer:
"Lord Jesus, we approach Your altar of grace today, surrendering all that we are. Help us lay down our burdens and receive Your mercy and grace. May we find comfort in Your love. Amen."

Reflection:
Reflect on the areas of your life that you need to surrender at the altar. How can you approach Jesus with confidence today, trusting in His mercy and grace?
