The Magnitizdat Literary Low noise. High fidelity. THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY is available in print through Gutter Brew Distribution. We typically respond to queries within 30 days.

THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY is a zine of verse and prose circulating outside the literary establishment, a slow celebration of the quiet, the physical: a reaction against instant gratification, and a careful exploration of what grows in the cracks culture conditions us to ignore, be it the languid beauty of a sad afternoon, or the visceral dread of smoke-tinged, bottle-hued midnights. Named for the s

ecret audio recordings once circulated out of sight of censorious, despotic regimes, THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY is a redoubt of pure aestheticism, art for its own sake, independent of any social or political mandate. The journal is published on a quarterly basis, and bound in a minimalist style reminiscent of underground, second-circulation publications. THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY accepts submissions on a rolling basis. We have no formal requirements regarding theme, length, or genre, though we tend to favor short fiction, flash fiction, and poetry. Please remember that the written word is capable of a certain depth of expression unique among artistic media. We hope your submissions will explore these depths; aesthetics are paramount. Format your submissions in .DOC or .DOCX format and send to [email protected]. Also, we ask that you include a brief bio in the body of your message. We do not accept previously published work, whether in print, online, or otherwise. THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY retains first serial rights to all work published either in print or online. Upon publication, all rights will revert back to the author. However, THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY retains the right to reuse published material for promotional purposes at any time during the life of the journal. If you do not wish your work to be used in promotional campaigns, you must notify the editor-in-chief within 30 days of acceptance of publication. If you do not receive a response, please follow up with us – sometimes we accidentally misplace things. THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion/creed, gender, gender expression, age, national origin/ancestry, disability, marital status, sexual orientation/identity, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. We look forward to hearing from you.

Number four is open for business. We are currently seeking poetry and literary prose for the next edition of THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY. We are interested in intensely aesthetic work that challenges our senses and confounds our expectations – work rapturously written, toward an ideal of stylistic abandon. More importantly, we like it kinda weird. This issue will explore the twin themes of ENTROPY and RESISTANCE: please send us work that uncoils these ideas. Deadline is June 30th. Query us at [email protected]; visit www.themagnitizdat.com for more information.

Head Cleaner, The Fall 2016 Edition of THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY, is available now. Collecting fourteen carefully selected works of poetry and prose from ten authors, HEAD CLEANER is a literary palette of autumn color. Justus Wolfe sheds light on the empty highways of night in “Freeway,” while Tim Bray explores the addictive properties of love in “Smoking.” Leah Mueller and R.K. Lucas offer devastating portraits of grief and melancholia; Howie Good uncovers the secret poetry hidden between the lines of newspaper copy. Lana Bella’s cigarette-stained lyricism, meanwhile, is a perfect counterbalance to the playful, poetic mysticism of Daniel Roncace. In "Saving Junie," Kim Bailey Deal asks whether blood is indeed thicker than water, and in "Real Purple" Jacob Ferrier assesses the value of hope in a world run short of it. Closing the volume is Michelle Wong's "The Last Time I Ever Saw My Father," a treatise on the desperate absurdity of life and loss.

THE MAGNITIZDAT LITERARY ships worldwide from Gutter Brew Distribution and is available in select bookstores in the United States.

"The man came and blessed our house, coming to us like a preacher would. He brought a smoker and a large book, which he kept lodged under his arm. We had to seek refuge in our family van. We were instructed to park on the dirt road so we did not inhale the smoke. My father parked on the hill so we could see. The man in the white suit circled our house nearly three times before we saw them, leaping into the sky like dark lightning. They consumed our lilac tree. Another group covered our rooftop." – Smoke Signals, Brandy Abraham, Vol. I Issue 1
