It's the last day of Kwanzaa! The final principle is Imani or faith. "To believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle." I think this clip pretty much speaks for us, with a little comic relief sprinkled in too. 😉

Day 6 of Kwanzaa!! Today honors the principle, Kuumba or Creativity. “To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.” What are you doing that is leaving our community beautiful? Music? Art? Literature? Spiritual Healing? STEM jobs/research? You already know what VitaMelanin is up to for the community. 😜 Sound off in the comments below!

Day 5 of Kwanzaa! Today we light the candle representing the principle Nia, or purpose. Remember that not only are we to set personal goals, but let us make sure that we set goals to benefit our community. We must work to restore our people to their traditional greatness. With that being said, what is the purpose behind your personal goals? Are they benefitting our community or just yourself in the long run?

Day 4 of Kwanzaa!!! Today’s focus is on Ujamaa or cooperative economics - “To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses to profit from them together.” With THAT being said, we’re shouting out a Black business (as we so often love to do!) Today’s business is Made Worthy Journal Notebooks!

“Write Your Story. Yep, that’s it.” Khadijah, owner of made worthy journal notebooks says. A journal notebook for her has always been a safe space to release her thoughts on paper, whether that was the good, the bad or the ugly. It’s a COMPLETE Release! The benefits of journaling can give greater clarity and focus, and allow us to record moments of our daily lives. She says these journals are a great way to record your thoughts, jot down to-do lists, draw in, doodle in, or simply keep your day organized. She wants you to remember: whatever comes your way, know you were Made Worthy!”

So far they have a total of 9 journal notebooks.
Two are catered to men (basic black and brown wood), One is a sermon journal notebook pre-prompted, and the other 6 are everyday journals for prayer, meditation, daily thoughts, etc.

Ujima (collective work and responsibility) is today’s principle. “Without collective work and struggle, progress is impossible and liberation unthinkable.” We’ve got to come together and take both collective and individual responsibility on matters of our community. We are a village. We are ALL responsible for creating the change we wish to see in our community. Let’s make it happen, y’all.

It's a great movie for the family, and we definitely love seeing Black people as the main characters! What are some of your favorite Black Christmas movies? Day 8 of 12 Days of Christmas! Today is about books! Reading is fundamental and even more so when we're reading stories that are FUBU (for us by us for those who don't understand). VitaMelanin is highlighting a children's book that Tay decided to gift her little brother for Christmas. The book is titled, Danny Dollar Millionaire Extraordinaire by Ty Allen Jackson. It's about a young black boy named Dan(the man with the plan) whose lucrative lemonade stand was sabotaged by a jealous gang of kids. It's a wild ride that's sure to leave Tay's brother and your siblings or children intrigued. Due to COVID-19, we're not able to be together like we normally would for Christmas. So, in an effort to insure that gifts are received in time for those Christmas morning video chats, VitaMelanin is encouraging y'all to use this day to have your gifts wrapped and packaged up to be shipped out this week.
