Four men arrested in connection with a shooting at the corner of Middleton and Garnett Streets on Tuesday night are not in custody as reported by the police in a press statement.

Today we learned that the men were each released on $100,000 station bail following their detention at the Alberttown Police Station.

The men - Stephen Ramdass -39; Patrick Forbers – 30; Raji Canderpaul -41; and Mahesh Budho age unknown were arrested on Vlissingen Road after the car they were in, stopped in the vicinity of Survival Supermarket a short distance from the temporary office of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The police in a press statement said the men had earlier opened fire on truck driver, Samora Haddaway – 41. Haddaway, the statement said, had gone to the location at approximately 23:00 hrs to transport a container on Middleton and Garnett Street.

Haddaway related to investigators that while his porter was securing the container, five men, two armed with handguns approached the truck and started to hit the lorry, the two with guns then pointed their fi****ms at him.

Fearing for his life, Haddaway said he was forced to lie flat in the truck following which he heard several gunshots.

The men who entered a white car with registration number PAF 9078 while attempting to flee drove into a pothole causing the two right side tyres to burst. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Vlissingen Road.

During a search of the vehicle ranks found three G***k pistols containing 11, 17 and 16 rounds of matching ammunition. A G***k pistol typically has seventeen rounds of ammunition.

The police have not indicated if any or the number of spent shells recovered from the scene.
