Sometimes teaching is about scattering "seeds of possibility.” Maybe that’s what I was doing in this pic, taken at a retreat back in the day when we could gather in person. Either that, or I was beseeching people to laugh at another bad joke! Some day we’ll get together again, but for the moment, I’ll scatter a few seeds of possibility via Facebook:

1. Sharon Salzberg, founder of the Insight Meditation Society, recently celebrated the IMS's 45th anniversary with a webinar that’s archived here https://tinyurl.com/y9qpbvb3. I joined Sharon, Rhonda Magee, and Jerry Colonna in a lively dialogue on “Healing the Heart of Democracy.” Check it out.

2. In preparing for that event, I read Rhonda's important book, “The Inner Work of Racial Justice.” You can learn about the book here https://tinyurl.com/yanlvofo. In this era of domestic terrorism by white supremacists who want to destroy our democracy, we need to be dealing with America’s original sin from every possible angle. This book will help. Please pass the word.

3. Ariel Burger, author of “Witness: Lessons from Eli Wiesel’s Classroom,” recently sat down with Krista Tippett at On Being for an interview that Krista titled, “Be a Blessing.” Ariel is a true rabbi; I always learn in conversation with him. When I endorsed his book, I called it “beautiful and brilliant.” Learn more about his work at https://tinyurl.com/yxaf3du9.

4. Amelia Aldred hosts a podcast called “The Labyrinth and the Thread” about creativity and mental illness: “When trying to create and stay well feels like walking through a labyrinth, how to do you find your way?” A few weeks ago, she interviewed me about depression and creativity, and once again I found myself learning thru conversation with one of my younger mentors. Check it out and spread the word: https://tinyurl.com/y2ossho9

5. Julie Tallard Johnson recently published “The Clue of the Red Thread: Discovering Fearlessness and Compassion in Uncertain Times.” I was privileged to be a conversation partner as she was writing the book. You can read about Julie and her work here https://tinyurl.com/ydcel5lu, and find the book on Amazon at https://tinyurl.com/ydxedn6f.

Seeds of possibility—plant a few today! You never know what might grow from them.
