I'm home, and at least loaded back into my house with the last of my gear. I am full with gratitude for the musicians, volunteers, and everyone who came and participated in Funky Rivertown Fest 2024. I'm getting my ducks lined back up on the slow tonight, then right back on to the next thing.

Thank you all! Special thank you to Lynne Frederickson, Mike and Angela Ward, Kandace Fredrick, Barbara Ingalls for all of the help. Bob Hausler who came down to volunteer, I believe every day? and Jay Jylkka who took so many amazing photos.

Much more to come!

Thanks for the mention, CBS, Detroit!

Valentine's Day evening entertainment courtesy of Detroit's own Jo Serrapere and the LaFawndas. Come and join the fun with the whole gang on this "live" event

Featuring Jo Serrapere and the LaFawndas

With the LaFawndas, Jo’s writing is heavily inspired by the music of Wanda Jackson. She moves from gogo boots to cowgirl boots with wry social observation. Jo Serrapere is a beloved Michigan singer-songwriter. Her performances in the past have included NPR's Mountain Stand and Prairie Home Companion. She has been a performer at the Ark, the Ghost Light, Ann Arbor's Summer Festival, the Hollarfest, Earthworks Harvest Gathering, just to name a few.

Her new version of the LaFawndas spent a good part of their quarantine rehearsing outdoors to put together an exciting and hip line-up of roots Americana musicians playing like they've been a unit for years.

Jo Serrapere - guitar, vocals
John Devine - guitars, vocals
Stuart Tucker - drums
Lindsay McCaw - fiddle, vocals
Joel Jackson - Steel guitar
Jason Oberliesen - bass

It's time for a New Year's Celebration with Michael May and the Messarounds!

A hard working band; playing clubs, casinos and festivals abroad. In 2007 MM&M were finalists in the ICBS Blues Challenge. Jump, Swing, Blues, Jazz, R&B, New Orleans, Country, Latin and Rock. These guys do it all!!

MICHAEL MAY (Harmonica/Vocal) began his playing on guitar while in high school, but soon picked up the harmonica after being awe struck by John Popper of Blues Traveler. While still in college, he nurtured his
interest by attending concerts and clubs, following harmonica driven bands and soaking up all the impressions he could. He soon found himself under the tutelage of Dave Morris from the Ultrasonics. After an acoustic duo
stint of 18 months and some gigs with other bands Mike to infused his talents w/others and formed Blue Infusion in November 2000, which later morphed into The Messarounds in late 2005.

JASON BONE (Guitar) is one of the finest blues guitarists working in the upper midwest now. This cat has got the STUFF! Lead, rhythm, tone, soul. His playing grabs the sweetness and spice of each tune.

BRIAN DEMING (Drums) A man who studies his craft intensely can play with the best. He is the groove engine of the band. He regularly loads up the dance floor. Brother of the nationally renowned Doug Deming, now based out of Florida. It is clear blues and music runs deep in his blood.

ADAM BRODE (Bass) is an active part of the Detroit music scene. He plays with the Dirk Kroll Band and Tasha Owens to name just a few. His amazing tone, fluid lines and fabulous demeanor make him a first call for any bass gig.

In case anyone missed it elsewhere, we have started a new online concert series. I will also be doing songwriter shows with 2 or 3 (still working out specific logistics) artists swapping back and forth. Donations support the musicians and production team, if you feel moved to donate. In any case, please watch and enjoy. You can follow on YouTube or Facebook for info of future shows. The current plan is to continue these bi-monthly till summer, but it may be expanded.

The Whiskey Charmers is a Detroit-based band led by Carrie Shepard and Lawrence Daversa. Fans have often compared their sound to riding through the desert with the top down, or the feeling of being in some lonesome smoky bar off the side of an abandoned highway, or music from a Spaghetti Western. William P Davis (Former Deputy Director of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville) says of the band, “I’ve heard a lot of good musicians. The Whiskey Charmers remind me of no one – and, to me, that is one of the best compliments an act can receive.”

Their most recent album “Lost on the Range” includes a diverse mix of songs that take you on a 36 minute journey through the wild west, out into the far reaches of the galaxy, into a bedroom filled with monsters, and down the interstate to a budget motel. With their own brand of dusty Americana, the songs are intimate, sometimes dark and sometimes funny enough to make you laugh out loud.

The Whiskey Charmers two other albums include a self titled album (2015) and “The Valley” (2017) which received a Detroit Music Award for Best Country Recording. Many fans have become familiar with The Whiskey Charmers music through the video game Detroit: Become Human, a cinematic neo-noir thriller game that has sold more then five million copies worldwide.

Check out their new music video for “Fire and Flame” from their new album “Lost on the Range” available on CD, cassette, and all digital outlets.

This Saturday at 7:00, on drums with the Whiskey Charmers, Brian Ferriby (sitting):

Brian Ferriby began playing in bands at 16, gigging in bars around Detroit and in Hamtramck. He performed and toured regionally with groups based in Ann Arbor and Detroit through the 80’s and early 90’s. He relocated to Austin, Texas in the mid 90’s, where he performed, recorded and toured with Cory Morrow before becoming a member of Dale Watson and his Lone Stars, with whom he toured and performed internationally, and recorded on the seminal Truckin’ Sessions album. He returned to Michigan in the new millennium, and later became a founding member of The Whiskey Charmers, with whom he has performed, toured, and recorded on their three releases to date.

This Saturday for the show at 7:00 right here, playing bass, Ozzie Andrews:

Lansing, Michigan born, Daniel Ozzie Andrews, acoustic & electric bassist, began his professional music career at age 13 playing in bands in & around Detroit. After attending high school in Ann Arbor and graduating with a music performance degree from the University of North Texas, he landed in New Orleans, Louisiana and began performing on cruise ships. After sailing around the world four times he relocated to San Francisco, California and began extensively performing up and down the west coast, from Seattle to San Diego, with jazz, blues and rock bands, as well as performing on extended tours in the United States, Japan, Canada, Ireland & the United Kingdom. In 2000, journalist Ann Powers wrote in the New York Times, in review of a live show at the famous NYC's Bowery Ballroom, "Ozzie Andrews, on stand-up bass, was versatile and engaging." Currently, Ozzie records & performs with multiple Michigan based original bands. In 2017, the New York Music Daily described the recorded performance of Ozzie's playing as "tersely slinky bass".
