In the last few months, we’ve finally been able to finish off a few of the remaining rooms 🙌🏾 so I’m doing a before and after using pictures taken before the renovation (plus an estate agent pic for the second one).

1. The utility room and hardest working room in the house
2. The Crack Den, although neither of these pictures capture it when I gave it this nickname. We lived in this one room during the reno and it was hell, I’ll do another post on what it was like because I actually only took minimal footage of it during that time
3. The extension, which was a leaky old conservatory that we knocked down and built a proper useable room
4. The gym. Say no more.
5. The snug. We took out a chimney breast (partly to make the room slightly bigger, but also to create a corridor upstairs to our new bedroom), and blocked up the entrance to the kitchen

Which one is your fave before and after? For me it’s a toss up between the gym and the snug. Made such a difference to how we live!

ad Here are some stills of the gym that I revealed earlier in the week so you can have a proper look. Ahh I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved! 🥹 The acoustic panels really elevate the whole look. They are from and I’ve linked them in my stories. We went with the “walnut” colour which I think fits in really well. Let know if there is anything you’d like to know that I haven’t mentioned!

A look back at the kitchen renovation - swipe to the end for how it looked when we moved in ➡️

Our kitchen faces the back garden which is west facing, so gets all the evening light. However before we knocked through to make it an open plan kitchen diner, it was so so dark in there in the morning, even if it was a really sunny day! This influenced our decision to make the kitchen colours as light as possible, because we were so worried about it still being dark in there. Obviously now with hindsight we had no need to worry as it’s such a bright and airy room, but until those boards in picture 2 were taken down, we just didn’t know. And if we did know, we probably wouldn’t have chosen white. I mean I LOVE how our kitchen turned out, but we might have ended up with dark rich green units (which was actually a consideration believe it or not!) - maybe one day we’ll get them sprayed, but that will be years down the line!

Before and after of the final bedroom. Swipe to see the room at its absolute worst, and then again for the estate agent photo.

This room only became liveable in May this year, a whole 2 years after the reno started. Things take time and one thing I’ve learnt (or at least I’ve got better at) is the art of patience 😂

The evolution of the utility room.

We were lucky that the previous owners had already built an extension to house the utility and downstairs loo, so compared to the rest of the reno this room was mainly just a cosmetic change. We added a sink though, and I do get questions on why utility/laundry rooms need one. The simple answer is it’s where I do all the dirty washing - mud off shoes etc which I don’t want to do in my nice kitchen sink 😊

7 things we included in our 5.8 sqm utility room. If you're debating whether to have a utility as part of your renovation, I would absolutely advise it - even if it's just to shut the door on the piles of laundry you've been putting off!
