Four Nigerians arrested in Philippines for allegedly forging govt IDs, other documents after being exposed by a lady.

Four Nigerian nationals were arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation Cebu Division Office (NBI CEBDO) in Philippines for allegedly falsifying government IDs and other documents to be used for online scams, authorities said on Wednesday, June 15.



The NBI agents swooped down on a house in a subdivision in Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City at past 3 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022, and arrested the four suspects.They were identified as Augustine Onyekachi Nkowachi, Tosen Samuel Oguntoye, Chubuike Joseph Nwokoro, and Christopher Okeke.



The four will be facing charges of multiple counts of falsification of documents.

AKPABIO WINS APC AKWA IBOM NORTH-WEST SENATORIAL TICKET.

Godswill Akpabio, former minister of Niger Delta affairs, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Akwa Ibom north-west senatorial district.

Akpabio was first in the senate between 2015 and 2019.

Udom Ekpoudom, a former deputy inspector-general of police (DIG), had initially won the APC Akwa Ibom north-west senatorial ticket.However, the primary was annulled over alleged irregularities.

Speaking on Thursday night after a rerun, Akpabio said no lawmaker has done what he did for the district between 2015 and 2019.

I thank the Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district for finding me worthy to be given another opportunity to represent you in the Nigerian senate,” Daily Trust quoted him as saying.

“I recall when you gave me the first mandate in 2015 to 2019, I recall that there is no Senator ever that did the kind of empowerment I did for you.

“I know a lot of projects were done across the ten local government areas, from markets to water projects, to electrification projects, to building of classroom blocks.”

The former minister was in the race for the party’s presidential ticket but he dropped his bid for Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate".

APC CHIEFTAIN SHOT DEAD IN AKWA IBOM

A former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in OrukAnam local government area of Akwa Ibom State, Sir Sylvester. J Ntefre, was shot dead by suspected kidnappers at his residence in Ekparakwa community at about 8am today May 15.

The Nation reports that the assailants came in a black SUV vehicle and shot sporadically into the air to scare away neighbors before whisking him away into a nearby bush where he was reportedly killed.

The gunshots attracted youths who raised the alarm and started chasing the hoodlums, eyewitnesses said.

An eyewitness was quoted as saying;

“By the time the youths started to chase the kidnappers, they had already abducted the party chief into the nearby bush and shot him severally while some members of the gang who were waiting in a standby black Jeep abandoned it , ran out of the car and escaped through the bush.

The community people came out and rolled the Jeep away from that place . I don’t know where they took it but I am sure they ran away leaving the car behind.
This incident has some political contents . The deceased was known for being upright in his stand against some contenders in House of Assembly race in the area.
This one has surprised everybody. Though kidnapping has been rampant in this community in the last 8 months but this one is politically motivated.
Every person kidnapped in this Community pays ransom and regains freedom but this one was killed''

The state police command is yet to comment on this development.

FIFA to probe Ghana, Bafana Bafana penalty saga

World football governing body FIFA has confirmed receiving SAFA’s complaint and says it will look into the Ghana vs Bafana Bafana penalty incident.

Ghana edged South Africa 1-0 on Sunday to top Group G and send Bafana out of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Andre Ayew converted the penalty which was controversially awarded by referee Ndiaye MaguettSenegalesee, prompting Safa to report the incident to FIFA and contest the result.

The world football governing body said it will probe the referee’s decision.

“FIFA has received a complaint from the South African FA in relation to this matter and will review it. Please understand we cannot comment further at this stage.” Fifa said in a statement to The Athletic.

If FIFA’s probe unearths proof of match-fixing, the Group G final match between Ghana and South Africa could be replayed, while Maguette will be sanctioned.

Will Increase Nigeria’s GDP By $29bn, Says President Buhari*

The adoption of the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and its underlying technology, called blockchain, can increase Nigeria’s GDP by $29billion over the next 10 years, President Muhammadu Buhari said on Monday in Abuja at the official launch of the eNaira.
The President also declared that the introduction of the eNaira would enable the government to send direct payments to citizens eligible for specific welfare programmes as well as foster cross border trade.
President Buhari in a statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said that alongside digital innovations, CBDCs can foster economic growth through better economic activities, increase remittances, improve financial inclusion and make monetary policy more effective.
”Let me note that aside from the global trend to create Digital Currencies, we believe that there are Nigeria-specific benefits that cut across different sectors of, and concerns of the economy.
”The use of CBDCs can help move many more people and businesses from the informal into the formal sector, thereby increasing the tax base of the country,” he said.
The President said with the launch of eNaira, Nigeria has become the first country in Africa, and one of the first in the world to introduce a Digital Currency to her citizens.
He commended the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, his deputies and the entire team of staff who worked tirelessly to make the launch of Africa’s first digital currency a reality.

The President, who assured Nigerians of the safety and scalability of the CBDC system, said the journey to create a digital currency for Nigeria began sometime in 2017.

BUHARI LAUNCHES E-NAIRA

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday, launched the eNaira platform.

The eNaira is a culmination of several years of research work by the Central Bank of Nigeria in advancing the boundaries of payments system in order to make financial transactions easier and seamless for every stratum of society.

The launch was described by CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, as the first in Africa and one of the earliest around the world.

Emefiele said, “Mr President, today you make history, yet again, with the launch of the eNaira – the first in Africa and one of the earliest around the world.

2023 Presidency: Only God knows what the future holds for me, says Fayemi


Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi, says only God knows what his political future holds in the 2023 general elections.
Fayemi made this known on Sunday when he spoke on THISDAY Live, an interview programme on Arise Television monitored by The PUNCH.
Fayemi’s presidential campaign posters had gone viral in August 2020 and had sparked public debate on various social media platforms regarding the possibility of his candidacy in the 2023 presidential election.
The sponsor of the posters and Chairman of Ikere Council area of Ekiti State, Femi Ayodele, had said he did the posters, with the campaign message, ‘Support His Excellency Dr John Kayode Fayemi for President 2023’ “to show my unalloyed and uncompromising loyalty to Governor Fayemi” to dispel speculations that he was working against him.
But the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Yinka Oyebode, had said that his principal did not know anything about the posters.
“The sponsor is merely expressing a personal opinion,” he had said.
Ayodele was later directed to “step aside” by the Ekiti State House of Assembly over alleged unauthorised viral campaign poster seeking support for Fayemi’s presidential ambition.


But when asked on Sunday whether he would be running for President in 2023, Fayemi said, “I have a job to do; I want to finish well as governor of Ekiti State, I want to do more to put Ekiti on the pedestal of growth and development in the period that is left for me in office.

“What the future holds, God’s knows, but we will cross that bridge when we get there. For now, my primary responsibility is Ekiti State.”
The governor also predicted victory for his party, the All Progressives Congress, in 2023.
He said, “Contentions are always going to happen. APC is a big party with different tendencies and there will be contentions for and against.

Kidnapped Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic Students And Staff Members Have Been Released

Six students and two employees of the Polytechnic Institute of Nuhuva Mali in Zaria-Kaduna state, who were kidnapped by thieves, were released. Abdullahi Shehu, a public relations officer at the Polytechnic Institute, said they were released from an unknown location in Kaduna. Shehu told Kanali TV that the abducted students and staff were released after parents and relatives made an agreement with the thieves. A spokeswoman for the institution, who did not say if the ransom was paid, said school authorities would detain students if they were released later that day.
