We’re launching a new segment, Freestyle Friday! And we need your help to do it. This segment will act as our soapbox for the airways. Tell us what's on your spirit, what has your revolutionary heart vexed? Is there a new bill that you want folks to act on, have an essay you want to read an excerpt of or an actual 16-bar freestyle that expresses how you're relating to our current social and political moment? However you want to express it, we want to hear it! Bring the creative juices and let them flow here in The Artivists' Room! Submit at the link in our bio.

Do you remember sitting on the carpet "criss-cross applesauce" while your teacher read to you? That’s the feeling Imagine in Color Read Aloud Series wants to rekindle for your family and community. The Imagine in Color Read Aloud Series is a cultural literacy initiative that brings awareness to the importance of diverse and inclusive literature while igniting the passion of reading and storytelling curated with youth of color in mind.

This virtual program features the award-winning children’s books series, Callaloo Kids, written by Marjuan Canady, which are brought to life by the professional actors of CFA's Repertory Theatre Company. The goal of this program is to introduce children to stories across the diaspora, connect with each other and have fun!

This is a free event, but donations are welcome! Funds raised will benefit the awesome work of the Canady Foundation for the Arts (CFA). A portion of proceeds will go towards donating CFA’s Callaloo Kids books to the children of The Homeless Playtime Project to help spread the joy of reading far and wide!

Today marks ten years since the ex*****on of Troy Davis
On September 21st 2011, the state of Georgia executed Troy Davis, despite a strong innocence case and a massive global campaign fighting for his life. In the decade since Troy's murder, the movement against the death penalty and state violence that Troy and his family helped build has only grown. Troy's family members and countless supporters continue to do this work in his name, as he asked them to.

The virtual commemoration will include a welcome from Kimberly Davis (Troy's sister), a sneak peek of the I Am Troy Davis documentary film currently in production, as well as a discussion featuring De'Jaun Davis-Correia, Thenjiwe McHarris, Marc Lamont Hill, Delia Perez Meyer, and Kalonji Jama Changa. The discussion will be moderated by Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of Democracy Now!

Ahead of the event check out our conversation with the Davis Family about Troy's life and legacy, live now!

Register for tonight's event and join us! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ten-years-on-the-legacy-of-troy-davis-continues-tickets-170179217621
