Our Story

The Advocate was established in September 2018 by Nikhil Dhingra with the goal of providing a voice for college students passionate on various policy issues. Our mission is to promote the dissemination of literature that examines youth-related issues with the goal of encouraging youth advocacy in local and federal politics. We currently hold columns in five areas: criminal justice, healthcare, education, environmental policy, and economics. Our columns include writers with a wide range of skills, views, interests, and majors. We pride ourselves in the freedom we provide our writers to pursue their interests and learn more about issues they care about. While the policy aspect of our publication is important, our advocacy component is what sets us apart: the beginning of each article provides a brief section to inform the reader of steps they can take to advocate for a policy they care about. Our writers are led by an Editor-in-Chief and an E-Board comprised of editors for each column and directors that manage the publication’s operations.
