Come June 21st on World Music Day 2025, music magic takes centre stage.

We celebrate humanity's shared heartbeat and sound, the legacy of music which connects soul's 🎶

The theme for World Music Day 2025 is "Healing Through Harmony".

Back in 1982, a survey in France showed that five million people (approximately 9 per cent of the population at the time) played a musical instrument.
La Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 by the Ministry of Culture.

The idea originally came from the American musician Joel Cohen who was then working for a French radio station called Radio France.

He wanted bands to play on the evening of June 21, the very first day of summer, to welcome the return of the sun!

The Minister for Art and Culture, Jack Lang, and Maurice Fleuret, a composer, decided to find a way to get as many people as possible playing music for everyone to hear. They launched 'La Fête de la Musique'. There is a play on words in the name: La Fête de la Musique means 'Music festival' and 'Faites de la musique' means 'Make music!'

Music has evolved over millennia across various cultures, and attributing its origin to a single individual is impossible. However, some individuals are celebrated for their significant contributions to the development or understanding of music, particularly within specific genres or traditions.

In the words of Langston Hughes :
"Life is for the living.
Death is for the dead.
Let life be like music.
And death a note unsaid".

The summer solstice arrives on June 21 — the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

We experience the official start of astronomical summer.

In contrast, the Southern Hemisphere experiences its shortest day on June 21st, as it's tilted away from the sun.

For thousands of years, cultures around the world have celebrated this turning point — from ancient solstice ceremonies to modern festivals.

It’s a time of renewal, energy, and connection to nature.
So get ready for later sunsets, magical experiences and longer days!

Sickle Cell Disease remains a silent but devastating reality for countless lives, especially within tribal and marginalised communities across India.

In someone who has SCD, the hemoglobin is abnormal, which causes the red blood cells to become hard and sticky and look like a C-shaped farm tool called a sickle. The sickle cells die early, which causes a constant shortage of red blood cells.

On this World Sickle Cell Day, let us commit to more awareness, better diagnostics, and accessible treatment. Early intervention can save lives. It is a matter of justice, dignity, and survival.

Juneteenth is observed annually on June 19, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. A combination of the words June and nineteenth, the holiday, also called Freedom Day, has been celebrated since 1866 and is considered to be one of the oldest continuing African American holidays.

On Juneteenth, we remember the fight for freedom and the voices that helped lead the way to this defining moment in American history.

On June 17, 2021, Pres. Joe Biden signed legislation to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.
