Kirtland Central girls basketball win the State Championship!
Kirtland Central defeated Bernalillo, 55-32, to claim the 2022 NMAA Girls State Basketball Championship title in the Class 4A division at UNM the PIT on March 11th. Kirtland Central capped their championship season at 27-5.
It is the 20th State Championship title for the Kirtland Central girls basketball program, the most of any high school, girls or boys, in the state of New Mexico, and tied for 4th, nationally, for the most state championships by a team according to NFHS record books. (2022, 2012, 2010, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2001, 1999, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1987, 1986, 1985, 1984, 1983, 1982, 1981, 1980)
Not to mention, the game was the 33rd time Kirtland Central has appeared in a State Championship game.
The third time is the charm for Coach Devon Manning. Manning led Kirtland Central to the championship game in 2019 (his first year), 2020, and 2022, coming up short in the first two appearances and then winning the title this year. We couldn't be prouder of Coach Manning and his staff.
And to Bronco Nation - THANK YOU FOR SHOWING UP! The roars were spectacular.
