Built to honor the Goddess Mariamman - a god against disease and protection. Built by Naraina Pillai - an Indian merchant from Penang - in 1827, the temple was modified to its current structure in 1862, although it underwent some subsequent renovations, but here is still an extremely attractive tourist destination.
