Today, Monday, 14th March, 2022, I formally tendered my resignation from the Akwa lbom State Executive Council as the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport.

It was an honour and great privilege to serve our State under the leadership of Mr. Udom Emmanuel at such an important phase in our history. I am grateful to God almighty and His Excellency, for giving me the opportunity to serve.

I also thank the good people of our dear state for their support and encouragement which motivated me in the discharge of all the tasks and assignments given to me, especially with regards to the envisioned three gateways (Land, Air and Sea) for the rapid development of our dear state and creation of job opportunities for our teeming and very enterprising youths.

Throughout the duration of my service, I strived diligently to interprete His Excellency's vision for our State as encapsulated in the Divine Mandate Agenda and Completion Agenda respectively.

As the scripture admonishes "to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven..." Eccl. 3:It is my deep conviction that this is the best time to take a leave in other to focus on my aspiration for the 2023 Governorship election.

Once again, I thank His Excellency for the opportunity and wish our dear state the very best of growth and development.

..group endorses Economic Boss for Governor 2023

Ahead of the 2023 Governorship Elections in Akwa Ibom State, more support groups from all walks of life has identified, received with massive support for the candidature of Mr. Akan Okon, the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport.

An elderstatman and chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Distinguished Senator Anietie Okon on Tuesday 28th December, 2021 played host to Fishers of Men, Itu Chapter led by Mr. Effiong Edidem, the International President and Coordinator of the group at his country home, Mbiatok Itam, in Itu Local Government Area.

Distinguished Senator Anietie Okon, the pioneer National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and currently the Political Leader of Itu Local Government Area thanked the leadership of the group for the show of love and solidarity shown to Mr. Akan Okon whom according to him described him as the son of the soil of Itu Local Government Area charged the group to continue in mobilizing support from the 31 Local Government Area's of Akwa Ibom State and beyond.

Senator Okon while speaking on the state of the nation expressed dismay over the abandonment of the existing facilities and industries in Itu Local Government Area most especially the Mary Slassor Memorial Hospital in Obot Itu and the NNPC in Oku Iboku said, if a Governor is produced from the Zone, those facilities and industries will be functional with both social, economic and Political benefits for the betterment of Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State and the country at large.

Speaking, Mr. Effiong Edidem, the International President and Coordinator of Fishers of Men, Itu Chapter thanked God for his superlative grace upon mankind and extolled the unprecedented leadership role played by Distinguished Senator Anietie Okon both locally, nationally and in the international ecosystem of governance in the country.

Mr. Effiong Edidem said that the Pioneer National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Distinguished Senator Anietie Okon who is named as the Lion of the Niger Delta due to his proactive role in administration has contributed immensely to the growth, advancement, nation building and development of the state and Nigeria in General.

Mr Edidem lauded the unassuming leadership prowess of His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel most especially for the peace and security enjoyed in Akwa Ibom State in the last six years of his administration which has also brought about many forms of development into all sectors of the economy spread across the state while reiterating the groups avowed determination to support the completion agenda mantra of the Governor and his succession plan in 2023.

Speaking further, Mr. Effiong Edidem stated that the group is fully out to support the candidature of Mr. Akan Okon who is the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport with a superlative track record in administration since his appointment into the state Executive Council.

"The group named 'Fishers of Men' is aimed at fishing out credible and seasoned administrators who will take Akwa Ibom State to its apex which on the pace of searching, Mr. Akan Okon, a son of the soil from Itu Local Government Area has been found has the man who will succeed Governor Udom and consolidate on the existing mandates of the current administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel if given the opportunity to lead the people of Akwa Ibom State as the next Governor of this state". He said.

He described Mr. Akan Okon as a gift to Akwa Ibom State whom has performed tremendously in any given assignment noted that his leadership skills brought about Ibom Air which is now rated as the best airline in the entire region also added that with Mr. Akan Okon, the success of Ibom Deep Seaport will be achievable within a short period of time.

How however declared the group's unflinching support for the candidature of Mr. Akan Okon and prayed that the dream should come into Manifestation for the general interest of Akwa Ibom people both within and diaspora.

A socio political group,United Ibom People Movement popularly known as Akenyin Initiative is on the move. The group is moving with the fastest velocity.

With chapters cutting across the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State,the group has as her international president a renowned and seasoned lawyer of no mean repute,a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria,a fine gentleman with simple lifestyle,Elder Barr. Raphael Etim.

Akenyin Initiative is out to support and promote good governance. They are all out to ensure that the completion agenda of His Excellency,Udom Emmanuel is not treated with kids gloves. As the name implies, the group is Akenyin and we are projecting Akenyin,hence everyone must get involve because it is Akenyin.

Charity they say,begins at home but should not end at home. We are out to support Akenyin and ensure that Akenyin is exalted.
With the man on the saddle,we have no doubt that Akenyin Initiative is for the best of us all.

ABRIDGED PROFILE OF THE HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND IBOM DEEP SEEPORT: AKAN OKON

Akan Okon is a highly experienced and accomplished Banker whose career in the sector spanned over two decades. He started his banking career with the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he worked in several departments the last being Assistant Manager, International Remittance Office of the same bank, in 1991.

Mr. Akan Okon has also occupied top positions in reputable Banks such as Area Executive Standard Trust Bank [now UBA]; Head, Treasury and Financial Institution Department in First African Trust Bank Limited;Head, Investment Banking in First Atlantic Bank Plc, and Area Executive, South-South, First Inland Bank Plc where he distinguished himself in Investment Banking.

Few years after, he went into private practice having established his own Financial Advisory firm, Fantixis Investment Limited as the Managing Director/CEO of the company, where he held sway until his appointment in the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council in October,2013 as Commissioner for Economic Development, and later was redeployed to superintend over the State Ministry of Finance, Housing and Special Duties, Special Duties and Aviation Development, Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seeport a position he held till date.

Born 56 years ago on Nigeria’s Independence day, 1st October, Mr Akan Okon who hails from Mbiatok Itam, in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, bagged a Second Clas Upper Division in Business Administration from the University of Lagos, in 1987, and went further to obtain a Masters Degree (MBA) in Banking & Finance from the University of Calabar, in 1991.

As the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akan Okon brought professionalism and pragmatism to bear in his assigned duties to bolster the State’s fiscal and economic development priorities.

And as the Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation Development, Mr. Akan Okon brought his professionalism as an Investment Banker to bare, and that gave birth to the pride of Akwa Ibom State in the sky, Ibom Air to bolster the State’s fiscal and economic development proirities.

He has attended several professional training courses both within and outside the country and has also bagged several Awards, notably;

UIPM congratulates New A'Ibom PDP Chair

Akwa Ibom State based socio-political organization known as 'United Ibom Peoples' Movement' (Akenyin Initiative) has congratulated Elder Aniekan Akpan over his successful election as the new State Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State Chapter.

In a statement issued earlier today and signed by the President General - Elder (Barr) Raphael Etim, the Organization described the emergence of Elder Akpan to pilot the affairs of the Party as meritorious and well-deserved, considering his wealth of experience and excellent track records in both private and public services.

The Organization noted that as a former Caretaker Committee Member of defunct NRC, former Council Secretary; Council Chairman; House of Assembly Member; Commissioner for Education and a Commissioner - Akwa Ibom State Local Government Service Commission, Elder Akpan performed excellently well and expressed the hope that he will not be found wanting in his newly assigned duty.

The Organization further thanked leaders, stakeholders and members of the Party (PDP) for finding Aniekan Akpan fit for the election and assured the new Party Boss of the total support of the entire Leaders and members of UIPM across the 31 LGAs of the State, while praying the Almighty God to imbue in him wisdom and ability to succeed.

AKAN OKON: AN EXCELLENCE PERSONIFIED.

Excellence is the key to accomplishing the extraordinary. From time immemorial, human race have been striving to make excellence a priority. However, many do falter while aiming at this virtue. This is because they could not fathom the Intricacies associated with this noble way of living. Till date, many are in oblivion as to what constitutes excellent living. Not realizing that it takes discipline, hardwork and passion to achieve excellence, as exemplified in the life and actions of the man, Akan Okon.

Being all encompassing a word, excellence embraces competent, confidence, charity, dedication, sound mind, service, etc. And these positive qualities are true reflection of the personality of this Mbiatok- Itam born administrator cm politician.

Akan Okon is admirably competent. He exudes confidence and passion in the performance of his job. His office is always full of activities, as people keep thronging to see him for diverse businesses. Nevertheless, he takes time (with his busy schedule) attending to matters diligently to everyone satisfaction. An attributes of a servant leader. Infact, the burden of leadership some find difficult grappling with, is what he discharges with panache.

Another quality of excellence noticeable in him, is optimism. This comes with determination, focused, patience and persistence. He is an incredibly patient politician who demonstrates remarkable intellectual and mental energy in the discharge of his duties.

Akan Okon is savvy and urbane. His affable nature and liberal mindset is a plus in his dealings with the people. It gives him an easy ride on issues that appear elusive to others.

One of the prominent features of excellence found in his DNA is the fact that, he is a cool-headed gentleman who puts the interest of Akwa Ibom state above other narrow considerations. A philosophy that endears him to the people.

In the Biblical days, God send Moses to rescue his beloved children (Israelites) from the hands of the Egyptians.

Moses was a man that God took through
the wilderness to prepare him for the task ahead. With passion, zeal and commitment, Moses went out of his way to helpothers, not minding the risk involve. At the end, he successfully freed the Israelites from the enemy's hands and led them to the promise Land.

Every era and generation has their own Moses destined by God to lead His people to the promise land.

In Akwa Ibom, come 2023, Akan Okon is one man with that genuine interest and passion to freed Akwa Ibomites from the political, social and economic sharkles and bo***ge currently faced in the Country. He is 'THE ONE MAN that have shown passion, zeal and commitment towards the well-being of
his people in this generation.

Gov. Udom’s Adviser, Ekefre charges Group on Unity, love

*Hail UIPM for partnering with Govt. toward a better A’Ibom

The Honorary Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel on Grassroots Mobilization, Otuekong Enefiok Ekefre has charged leaders and members of United Ibom Peoples’ Movement (Akenyin Initiative) on need to maintain peace and to work in unison

The charged was handed down last Friday, 4th December, 2020 during a joint meeting of Leaders and Coordinators of the Organization in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State.

At the meeting held at the Mini Conference Hall of Ati Annang International Secretariat, Ikot Ekpene, the Governor’s Aide who was invited to the meeting as Special Guest, described Unity and peace as the foundation of progress and development of any community. He added that without peace, there will be no progress in the society.

He admonished members across the state to be steadfast, loyal and committed to the activities and programmes of the organization, which according to him will enable the organization to achieve it set goals.

Earlier, while welcoming Otuekong Ekefre, the President General of the Organization, Elder (Barr) Raphael Etim thanked the Governor’s Aide for honouring their invitation.

He said meeting was part of the ongoing Senatorial District tour of the Organization, noting that so far leaders of the UIPM have toured to Uyo Senatorial District, and that the major aims of the tour are to sensitize the people on need to support governance and to mobilize more support for Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration.
Also Speaking, the Vice Chairman for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of the Group, Hon. God’swill Mkpa thanked the State Chief Executive, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for the numerous strides recorded by his administration. He reiterated the group’s commitment toward ensuring his successful tenure.

However, during the meeting which lasted for over two (2) hours, the leaders and coordinators brainstormed on possible ways and strategies to move the group to a greater height.

The highpoint of the meeting were prayers for the group, Governor Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria, as well as visiting the Hall of Fame at the International Secretariat of Ati Annang. The Honorary Special Adviser, Elder Ekefre was conducted round the Hall of Fame by the UIPM Treasurer, Rev. Hope Ekong.

During a recent interaction with Journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the President General of United Ibom Peoples' Movement (Akenyin Initiative) - Elder (Barr) Raphael Etim speaks on the mission of the group. He said:

"UIPM is just an umbrella of like-minds. It’s a warehouse of intellectuals – that is people who are genuinely desirous of good governance. The idea of forming that group came up when we saw very desirable tendencies of His Excellency, the Governor (Deacon Udom Emmanuel) who by his actions is seen as one that is interested in changing not only the landscape, but the people and the mood of governance in this State. We know the relative peace we are enjoying here today is as a result of the leadership qualities of Udom Emmanuel. The economic stability we are experiencing currently is still as a result of good management. I must say that the last administration in this State did not leave this State healthy economically, but it takes a genius – a man who has the know-how to drive the economy of Akwa Ibom State. So, since a tree cannot form a forest and since the government needs an encouragement, we decided to come under the umbrella of ‘Akenyin Initiative’ to drum genuine and good supports to the Governor to tell him ‘Ete Amenam aboho’. Where the Governor is derailing, we should by good conscience give him a genuine advice to jettison that process and do the right thing to ensure that Akwa Ibom State is better off.

Qtn: Aside that, taking 2023 general election into consideration, is there any other reason behind the birthing of the organization?

Ans: Well! No, but yes. As a vanguard that is spearheading or drumming support for the Governor that is here to see how well Akwa Ibom is governed and to advise on the way forward, I don’t think the group would think differently or would want to subscribe to any project in 2023 that would not further the course of good governance given by Udom Emmanuel.

When it comes to 2023, sincerely the people of Akwa Ibom State would not want to have a governor who would not do what Udom has done or do better than Udom. And I’m quite sure His Excellency the Governor is living good legacies behind – legacy of good governance, legacy of good projects on ground and a legacy of living a good administration behind.

2023 Gov’ship: On Zoning To Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency we Stand

Zoning is one of the many policy formulas used by political parties in resolving and managing problems associated with allocation and distribution of positions and offices among competing interests and groups. This provision, originally ideology of the then Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) in 1979 and adopted upon the formation of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998, has among other benefits brought unity, peace and stability into our political system and as well given every regions/areas, a sense of belonging, in the scheme of things. Today, there is no political party in Nigeria that has not adopted the idea of zoning; whether AA, AD, ADC, APC, PDP, SDP or YPP. So it is even a part and parcel of the Nigerian democratic system.

One of the ideas used by the PDP in winning the Governorship position of Akwa Ibom State in the pass years was zoning; an ideology that other political parties have even adopted. Since then and over years now, we have had the position and amongst other principal offices rotating to the benefit of all political zones, ensuring socio-political stability in the State.
It’s generally believed that Akwa Ibom governorship position in 2023 should be zone to Uyo Senatorial District, and Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in particular.

Moving down to Itu Federal Constituency, the 2023 governorship of the State is of their right. If the Zoning is to be jettisoned, that means that morally, we don’t have any reason complaining about Nigerian politics which is being dominated by the northerners in terms of population and size.

Equity and justice, whether to majority to minority has no colour. Itu/Ibiono Ibom people are very contentious because as of right, that is the only zone in Uyo Senatorial District that has never tasted such position. But some people from other political blocs, maybe because of greed or because of “share size” are muscling to hijack power from them. God forbid.
In Akwa Ibom State, we stand for peace, we stand for unity, we stand for equity, and we support zoning. On zoning of 2023 Governorship to Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency.

UIPM weighes behind Gov. Emmanuel’s led administration

*reiterates commitment to promote good governance

A formidable socio-political Organization in Akwa Ibom State known as ‘United Ibom Peoples’ Movement’ (Akenyin Initiative) has reiterated her commitment toward promoting and working with the State Chief Executive, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for the common interest and wellbeing of the people.

The group’s position was made known publicly through the President, Elder Raphael Etim during his brief interaction with Newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Elder Etim, himself a Legal Luminary while speaking lauded the competency and effective leadership performance of Deacon Udom Emmanuel, describing him as a square peg in a square hole.

Hear him: “From the blast of the whistle when Udom came in, he has shown the character of one that is prepared to work and turn around the fortunes of Akwa Ibom State. In the area of road, he has tried. But much has to be done to further add face-lift to the State capital. In the area of electricity, he has done so well. I think Akwa Ibom is trying when it comes to electricity, not because of the National grid, its because of the passionate and genuine intention of the Governor. Construction of sub-stations around the State where there were challenges to boast the economic development of the State is commendable.”

“I last saw a government commissioning a company when I was in primary school. That was when I saw Dr. Clement Isong commissioned the Champion Brewery. This is again, the second time I have seen a governor who has passion in creating jobs, hence the major industries that he has been able to attract into the State. That means he should be commended for that.”

“Generally, security wise – he is on top of his game. He does well. But then, there are some lacuna and there are equally some problems that should be looked into. You know, there is no perfect government in the entire world …but so far, he has already taken some good steps in the right direction. He should be commended.

Etim explained that Akwa Ibom is one of the best states in the entire country in terms industrialization, considering the number of industries attracted to the state by Deacon Udom Emmanuel led administration. Adding that the group will continue to support and encourage the good works the present Governor.

United Ibom Peoples’ Movement (UIPM), a formidable political organization based in Akwa Ibom State is out again with another strategic to rally genuine supports for Governor Udom Emmanuel led Administration.

The group, according to its publicity secretariat, is set to expand her structure across the 31 local Government Areas and Wards of the State.

This was part of the resolutions reached during an enlarged State Executive and Chapter Coordinator’s meeting held last Tuesday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

At the joints meeting which lasted for over three (3) hours, the group expressed readiness to swell it wings to the nooks and crannies of the State.

Announcing the group’s decision, the President – Barr. Raphael Etim said it was necessary to expand the organization’s structure to the respective Federal Constituencies, Local Governments, Wards and Units across the State. This, according to him would aides and serve as a channel to preach the gospel of good governance to the people of Akwa Ibom State, especially at the grassroots level.

Aside that, Barr. Etim equally hinted that the development would provide opportunity for the people at the grassroots to contribute their quotas and as well participate in the activities of the organization.

Meanwhile, Elder Etim has equally explained that the group which represents the political conscience of Akwa Ibom State, is totally in support and working for the success of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming elections in Akwa Ibom State.

He added that, the entire leaders and members of United Ibom People’s Movement across the State are solidly behind Deacon Udom Emmanuel’s led administration, and that they are working tirelessly to ensure the successful completion of his tenure in 2023.

The meeting had in attendance, all the State Executive Members, Senatorial District leaders and Chapter Coordinators from the 31 LGAs of the State.

HON AKAN OKON: GROWING STRONG IN THE SPIRIT (EPISODE ONE)

Life is a mystery, only God has the answer.The World we are living in is like a dying baby on the laps of a loving mother.She would not give up,She would look for the man who has the power to bring back life into such a child.God is raising en,equipping them in power and authority to stand and declare the counsel of God with great manifestation .God is about to unfold a man of righteousness,integrity to Akwa Ibom state,and his name is AKAN OKON.The reason is that the glory and dignity of salvation might retur to the state.

It might be recalled that in every generation God must raise a man equips him for specific assignment that will promote and further the purpose of God in such a time like now in Akwa Ibom.In this dispensational move of God,he identifies HON AKAN OKON.Thus he says in PS.89:20

" I have found David( Akan Okon )my servant:with my holy oil I have anointed him,with whom my hand ( government)shall be established,also my arm shall strengthen him,the enemy shall not outwit him ( defeat him ).nor the son of wickedness afflict him,I will beat down his foes before his face ,and plague those who hate him.But the faithfulness and my mercy shall be with hi and in my ame his horn shall be exalted..."

What more do we want in AKENYIN INITIATIVE? God has already granted our prayers.A man like Akan Okon is designed by God to fulfil a destiny in his time and season.
Therefor,let be praying and interceeding strongly in spirit of God,weiling in the spirit of grace for greater harvest of glory.
