I loved getting to do this! I’ve been playing with ways that geolocated video and/or drone mapping can be useful to land conservation orgs like the Bear Yuba Land Trust.

Monitoring fire impact on a steep, difficult-to-access property is the best use case I’ve found so far!

It was also great to have two controllers so that their land manager, Kate, could control the camera (and therefore easily look where she wanted to look) while I piloted the drone.

It looks so peaceful over our neighborhood! And it’s
incredible how invisible the storm damage that’s down below can feel.
Grateful to neighbors and emergency workers all across the Sierras for clearing roads, cutting trees off power lines, repairing damages, and so much more. Hoping everyone gets power back soon, but I know it could be a few more weeks for many, including our place. ❤️

Machik Fest is happening this Saturday through November 5! I’ll be speaking on a panel about drone technology on the STEAM panel this Saturday at 2:55pm EST. (As the only non-PhD participant, I feel both honored and inadequate haha 🙈)
The event is one giant reunion and celebration of all things Tibetan and global. Machik (especially Losang Rabgey, Tashi Rabgey, and their parents) have/has played such a big part in shaping my values over the years, and I’m grateful every time I get to be a part of what they do.
