Hey Brute fans - We need your feedback.

I've updated the website brutecomic.com for the upcoming Brute #4 - at this point it's fully functional (at least I think so), but there's still a lot of placeholder art and links that go to the old site (there's a ton to bring over, so it'll take some time before I can delete it fully).

However, you'll find a lot of new art from new artist Zdravko Girov, classic art from Owen Keenan and lots of fun facts, and some sneak peeks at new characters.

Please explore and let me know what more you'd like to see on it. How can it be even better? Or what doesn't work?

Continuing the story of Brute #4.

Now that we had a new artist (Zdravko Girov) the first thing was for us to ensure the continuity of the characters building on what Owen Keenan started while allowing Zdravko to add his own artistic style and flair.

Here are some of the initial character sketches (all slightly different than the finalized looks) of the three principle characters, Brute, Rose and Vanguard.

Note: In the line-up Rose is a little too small and adjusted in the comic.

So I dropped an image the other day from our upcoming Brute #4 and it's time I started giving sharing the news.

Once we successfully Kickstarted Brute #3 (Thanks you many of you!!) and then created the compiled Brute Volume One graphic novel (brutecomic.com / https://amzn.to/3VjLoyw) - I started working on - what else? Brute #4!!

There was one BIG hitch though, my esteemed co-created Owen Keenan was now tied up with our upcoming Lom The Last (more on that soon too!)

So who was going to draw Brute?

Fortunately through happy happenstance, I was connected with Zdravko Girov (https://zdravkogirov.blogspot.com/) a 25 year comic artist veteran from Macedonia through a mutual co-worker.

Zdravko's art style and sensibilities suit Brute perfectly and Brute was right up his artistic alley so we managed to negotiate a deal and work began!

So rest assured, although Owen might be working on other eSq Comic projects, Brute is in good hands.

Here's Zdravko's interpretation of a couple of my favorite cartoons as a kid.

Finally had a chance to play around with AI art DALL-E and see what it can do with - what else? - Brute and co.

Brute has so far proven to be a fair test of AI art capabilities as they often struggle to get these characters right. Dall-E also can't nail them, but it's gotten closer than any other art AI I've tried.

Here are some of the better AI shots of Brute, Rose and one for Vanguard (who proved to still be beyond Dall-E's imagination).

Would I use AI art for a Brute Comic? Heck no! AI is still 5-10 years away from that (you can't even get it to create the same character in an identical way more than once) and even then, I'd sooner trust an real artist to interrupt my stories to the page.

But AI is fun to play with and see how it interprets these characters.

Calling all our artist friends - eSq Comics is seeking an artist to work on our new Isecas The Dream Cat comic in support of children in need. Working with Children's Aid we're adapting this series, which has always been designed to help children deal with difficult life situations, to deal with one of the most challenging of all - sexual abuse.
We are looking to fund full page rate art via a Kickstarter campaign (and quite certain anyone who works with children will gladly back this and will want this tool to support kids in need in their toolbox).
However, to that end, we'll need a few pages complete and some character art to have this Kickstarter ready.
Children's Aid reached out to me, because the need for a book like this is, regrettably, massive. And with the help and feedback from children aid workers, psychotherapists, and youth who have lived this out, we feel we've created a very strong story and tool to help those currently in this situation.
If you're an experienced comic artist and this resonates with you (beyond a paying gig) please DM me with samples of your work and anything you'd want to share. And please share this with friends you'd think would be interested.

Star Wars was transformational for me as a child. I remember my dad dragged us to every 'B' rate sci-fi or fantasy movie that ever came out. Hated it. I wasn't looking forward to seeing this 'Star Wars' thing.

Then the now famous scene of Leia's ship being pursued by the gigantic Star Destroyer came on screen and I was HOOKED! Watched that movie nine times in theatres, got ALL the action figures. Spent endless hours creating my own Star Wars stories (many of which had Luke and Leia as parents to a barrel of monkeys - lol - at least until Empire Strikes Back came around).

To a degree I still am creating those Star Wars stories, as I chronicle the adventures of Rose, Brute, Captain Jerrreecko (Vanguard) and others on their own space adventures.

I met Ted at Toronto Comicon (or was it Fan Expo) back in 2019 and he was kind enough to give me lots of advice. So I bought a couple of his Tap Dance Killer (which introduced Punchline) and was hooked. Great classic comics with compelling characters and lots of unique personality. Definitely inspired my work on Brute.

I've just discovered this series and it's also excellent character-driven stories with a unique twist. Like Punchline (and not unlike the motley cast of Brute) Mahoney's is actually about the villians and gives them their due time to shine.

My six designs for the upcoming Brute Kickstarter campaign are all in. Clockwise from bottom left we have Vanguard and Shipwreck, Rose and Caesar, Brute (of course), Ubla, Stretch and bottom center, Drifter.

These will be die cut vinyl stickers in full color (colored of course by Brute colorist Brooke Newhart), offered as extras to Brute's supporters. The campaign is for the 4th Brute book 'Price of Freedom' which was a year in production. In addition to the regular cover by yours truly, Preston will be offering several amazing variant covers by guest artists.
