I hate weddings. Hate attending them, hate shooting them. However, when an old friend asks you to document his day of love and commitment, you don't say no. And this day was special.

For some context, the reason I hate shooting weddings is because of the pressure. You’re shooting something that’s likely going to be the happy couple’s most important day to date — you can’t f*ck it up.

Shooting an educational conference has its challenges. You're often in rooms where people are engaged in meaningful discussions, and you don’t want to disrupt that by blocking screens or letting your shutter go off constantly.

A tactic I used for this was a simple “in and out” approach: don’t stay in any room longer than you need to. This way, you cause minimal disruption and maximise your time, allowing you to get around to each session if they’re taking place simultaneously.

Shooting a celebratory event like the Manchester Young Talent Awards was ideal - the laughs and smiles were non-stop. I did my best to capture as many as possible.

Not going to lie — this job had me SWEATING. The first hundred photos were absolutely abysmal. The kind where you genuinely stop and think, “Wow… am I actually a fraud?”

Thankfully, once I got used to the lighting and the setting, the photos turned out pretty alright in the end.

Many moons ago, I used to be teetotal. Through school and university, I never touched a drop of alcohol. It was always just ingrained in me that I didn't drink. The initial reason was simply that I didn't like the taste (okay so I had one drop), but then the reasoning kind of evolved when I started working at my Students' Union club, and I used to see these 18 and 19-year-olds absolutely off their faces, looking a real mess. And I always told myself I never wanted to be that.

But as I got older, alcohol just became a constant factor in my life. I wasn't drinking it, but I was always around it. It was always "do you wanna go for a drink" or going on nights out, and alcohol would be the star of the show.

I've realised the biggest non-advice you can give someone is "You just need time to process." And don't get me wrong, I've definitely given that "advice" to people. Welcome to my crib.

But real talk — buying a home is a long process. It doesn't happen overnight, and it takes three things: patience, resilience, and money.

I'm not going to lie and say that buying a home is in everyone’s best interest, or that anyone can afford it. But what I will say is that, for something that might seem so out of reach for a lot of young people these days, it could be more within your grasp than you think. If you look in the right places and work on your financial literacy, home ownership could well be on the horizon for you.

I bought this place on my own, with no financial assistance, and I wasn’t exactly swimming in money… and with that being said, I’d say I did okay.
