Unprecedented and completely novel, the new undergraduate academic journal is an official output from the Association of European Studies Students’ (AEuSS), but effectively transcends this by proceeding to forge itself in the history of the Ateneo community as a distillation of eclecticism and transdisciplinarity.

What makes us anxious may repeatedly cripple us, but after a while, it's time to fight back. The second issue of our publication empowers you to do so by giving you the space to face your apprehensions. Talk about your anxieties in the language that is comfortable for you, be it philosophical, economic, sociological or any other, we welcome diversity.

Essay submissions that play on the theme of anxiety can range from 1000 to 5000 words. There are no strict guidelines on form or style, however it may be imperative for writers to consider the audience—the eclectic Ateneo community—in handling jargon.

Essays may come in the form of op-eds, short think pieces, reviews, criticisms, personal narratives et cetera. Topics can be as variegated as possible.

Write about what makes you anxious. Talk about how the rise of the right wing uneases you. Share your apprehensions regarding the neutrality of people in our time of moral crises. Speak up about the nagging anxiety that you are never and will never be enough.

Essays need to be submitted in either .doc or .docx format.
Photoessays, illustrations, and other forms of visual art are also highly welcome. Draw a caricature of the Philippine government. Be inspired by Scarlet Johansson on SNL. We want you to capture anxiety in a shot.

Submission must be in .jpg or .png format.
All works must be submitted by the 17th of April, 2017 to [email protected]

Call for works/contributions:

When the assumptions of political theories are driven into deterioration, and desystematization asserts itself as the new norm; social life ceases to be the same. Apprehensions rise unyieldingly.

This issue invites us to delve into anxiety and explore how it exists as a contradistinction from power; thus realizing how one could not resist or perish without anxiety.

Why must we insist on understanding the future? How does the absence of care or control bewilder? Do we spur into action, or withdraw for resilience, or decide to imminently perish? These are the questions we dare to ask as we confront the socio-political aspects of anxiety.

What to you is anxiety?

r+d, a journal of transdisciplinarity.

You want to join publication communities in Ateneo, but find that none speak your language. You hear your classmates almost keeling over with fervor on their field’s interpretation of Social Issue A, but find that their field does not do full justice to the multifarious aspects of its complexity. You’re polymathic and have been bequeathed the full powers of lit theory, critical studies, and economic models, but find that you have no place to let them flourish.

Or you just downright want to talk, and talk, in the most creative and discursive way possible.

Join us. Be eclectic, be transdisciplinary.
