The 3rd of May annually commemorates World Press Freedom Day as a reminder of the importance of freedom of expression and the press in nation-building, transparency, and upholding democracy.

This 2024, World Press Freedom Day envisions journalism as a vital aspect of addressing global-scale crises. Journalists extend awareness and combat disinformation concerning contemporary issues and environmental crises such as biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, pollution, and climate change.

Over the past 30 years, World Press Freedom Day has evolved into a beacon of hope, amplifying stories, evaluating the state of the free press globally, and honoring journalists' sacrifices for the service of their duties.

Set ourselves to be encouraged, empowered, and uplifted by our esteemed speakers! First and foremost, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲, a Journalist, a UN Women Consultant, and one of Cosmo Women of Influence lister in 2024.

Kung maisakatuparan man ang PUV Modernization Program (PUVMP) sa paparating na katapusan ng Disyembre, hindi na kailanman magiging “Merry” ang Christmas at “Happy” ang New Year ng higit isang daang libong mga tsuper at 60,000 na operator.

Bilang mga komyuter, dapat ay alamin din natin ang mga negatibong epekto ng modernisasyong pilit rinaratsada ng gobyerno.

Higit P2.8M ang halaga ng modern jeepney kumpara sa tradisyunal na jeepney na nasa P150,000 lamang. Ang subsidiya na ibibigay ng gobyerno ay kulang na kulang upang punan ang napakalaking halagang ito. Samantala, ang mga tsuper at operator na bibili ng modern jeepney ay makakabawi lamang sa pagtaas ng minimum fare o pamasahe.

Sa PUVMP, malinaw na papahirapan lamang ng gobyerno ang mga tsuper, operator, at komyuter. Ang modernisasyong ito ay isang patalim sa bulsa ng mga umaasa sa pampublikong transportasyon, at lason naman sa pang-araw-araw na magiging buhay ng mga tsuper at operator na mababaon sa utang at mawawalan ng prangkisa.

Sa huling tatlong araw ng transport strike, samahan natin ang mga tsuper na tutulan ang PUVMP sapagkat hindi ang kalagayan ng Pilipinas ang nais na ayusin ng sistemang ito. Sa paglunsad nito ay lalo lamang ibinababa ng gobyerno ang mga nasa laylayan ng lipunan.

Kung kaya't boses nating mga kabataan at komyuter ang magsisilbing batiting sa tengang-kawali ng gobyerno. Kaming mga Iskolar ng Bayan mula sa BA Journalism 2-1N ay nakikiisa sa pagkondena ng hindi makatarungang PUV Modernization Program. Naniniwala kaming sa pag-unlad ng bayan ay walang sinuman ang dapat na maiwan.

As an iSKo/iSKa, their advocacy is about giving back. It is using the knowledge and skills they gain to contribute positively to society. Education is a gift that equips them to tackle the pressing issues of our time, to seek solutions, and to be advocates for change.

Sa pag-ikot ng mga oras, masasaksihan natin kung paano hinahaplos ng pagbabago ang iba't ibang aspeto ng ating pamumuhay. Mula sa edukasyon, kalikasan, karapatang-pantao, at relihiyon, mapapabilib tayo sa transpormatibong tungkulin ng midya sa mukha ng globalisasyon.

LOOK | The "Pinta Sinta" CWTS Immersion Project of BAJ 1-1N has been completed.

With the tagline "Kukulayan ng sigla ang Sinta", the class repainted walls around Sintang Paaralan's pool area. The project aimed to establish a safe, clean, and vibrant environment for all university students, especially those who use the pool for academic and sports purposes.

In addition to enhancing the school's facade, the 1Nderers wanted to foster a sense of community and academic pride among our fellow PUPians. On to greater things, 1Nderers!
