Before Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, I wanted to share a project that is really special to me. My goal with this project was to highlight the Latinx community in the News 12 the Bronx newsroom — the reporters, producers, photographers, assignment desk editors, and managers. This is my first experience in a newsroom where I can walk around and speak to several of my colleagues in Spanish (and Spanglish!) We’re all spread out in different departments and we’re all here doing big things! So now, I’m sharing our stories with you. 😊 Huge thank you to everyone who shared their story. It’s been a crazy busy news day, I almost forgot to celebrate. Uptown Girl Productions turns TWO! Two years of storytelling, learning more & more with each project about my community, meeting all of you, and just doing the work that I’m passionate about. That’s the beauty of it - I’m passionate about what I do - everything else is a plus. This all started because I decided to take what I already do for a living and apply it to my community, as a way to preserve our culture amidst rapid, RAPID changes. (And emotions). Held at Amelia Gorman Park, La Sala Talks (@lasalatalks) organized the four candidates who are running to represent our neighborhood and our district to address the community. Uptown Girl Productions and Studio 92 got together to create a special piece about community. We wanted to show how communities are uniting and fighting together. Communities are protesting and educating themselves and each other. Communities are loving, inspiring, protecting, defending and holding each other up. This is only the beginning and there’s a long road ahead of a centuries long fight to bring justice to victims of police brutality, to bring down systemic racism and oppression and to end the virus that is white supremacy.
