Today we spoke with one of our members, Tamara “Mara” Smith. Tamara is owner of Mara’s Memories and Photogenicbymara. She is also kindergarten teacher!

When asked who inspired her growing up, she had many different answers. “Growing up, one of the top women who inspired me was Marylin Monroe. I love Marylin because she was always herself no matter what society painted her as. She risked “society standards” to show the world that society doesn’t determine your happiness or what you should look like.”

Tamara also stated that her “go get it” attitude was from the women in her family who always made sure with or without a significant other that their household was striving.
“My mom and my aunts always made a way when it seemed to be no way. They had God as their foundation and it never crumbled. There were hard years but you wouldn’t have known it. They’re strong when they need to be but also shown me it’s okay to be weak at times. They helped shape me into the women I am today.”

The women of the past help shape the women of the future!

last thing to focus on is yourself. Who are you without anyone else? When your friends describe you, what are the adjectives they use? When you describe yourself, what adjectives do you use?

Who are you in a relationship? Who are you, single? Who are you in your career? Who are you in your friend’s group? Who are you as a person?

If it’s hard answering these questions, that’s okay. Continue to work on yourself to be able to learn who you are.

Today we encourage everyone to focus on your preparedness. You want a new car but have you been preparing for that new car? Have you been saving for everything that the car will require? You want a new house. Have you prepared for the house?

As February comes to an end & we begin March tomorrow, focus on your preparedness. Ask yourself if you’ve been preparing for all the things you’ve prayed for. If not, start preparing. You can do it.

Today we spoke with Iesha Dunn Beavers, owner of Bow Couture customs and events. Iesha stays focused by prioritizing her time. She doesn’t rush herself and always give herself time to complete orders as to not put that much pressure on her.

Iesha takes care of herself. She makes “time out for herself to relax and not become overwhelmed”. Taking care of your self is great way to continue to stay focused and keeping up your mental health.

“Focus on the positive and understand that I am human and I am allowed to make mistakes” says Iesha. No one is perfect and mistakes happen all the time just be sure to let your clients know you’re doing everything to correct them like Iesha does.
Focus on your value and don’t let anyone take it away.

Today we spoke with Tamarra “Tea” Aikens, owner of Gripped by Tea. Tea says her “focus derives from her work”. By seeing her work on her happy clients, it makes her more “determined and motivated with the willingness to succeed”.

Making sure your clients are happy is a great way to make sure you’re doing amazing work. You won’t be able to please everyone but the ones who go that extra mile just to say their thanks make your business worth it.

Having your family and friends support you will keep you focused as well says Tea. They show you that no matter what you’ll always have support.

Today we spoke with Alexis “Lexie” Norwood, owner of Lexie’s Tasty Treats. Lexie says she stays focus by eliminating distractions & focus on what matters to her the most. Eliminating distractions are a great way to focus.

“Accomplishing my goals is top priority for me” says Alexis. Having your goals as your top priority can often help make sure you’re on the right track to getting where you want to be.

Also, having tunnel vision like Alexis will help. Tunnel vision has help Alexis to eliminate things that hinder from keeping her focus.

Music is a great way to stay focus. Shay uses a playlist as she works. This helps her remain on track as she fulfills orders.

“My planner stays full of my schedule” & this helps her keep track of her orders, work & school life. Planners are definitely a great way to focus while running a business & being in school.

“When I’m feeling unfocused, I visualize the life I would like to give myself”, says CoCo. Focusing on your future is a great way to make sure you get the results you’ve been trying to achieve.
