Shopping local this Black Friday is one of the best ways you are going to support your community. In turn, you will receive superior service, unique gifts & decor, and overall better quality.
When you shop at major big box retailers on Black Friday, you are buying dumbed down, low quality merchandise. These major retailers force suppliers to create low cost merchandise that will be sold during their Black Friday event. That is why you never see that merchandise the other 362 days of the year.
This coming weekend, the two LKN locations of your favorite big box retailer will bring in close to 16 million in sales. Sixteen Million Dollars of local sales…. Think about that for a minute. Imagine what would happen if our local community took 25% of the money they would spend there this weekend, and spent it at a local business. That would push about 4 million dollars back into the community. Imagine what would happen if all $16 million went back into the Lake Norman community?
How much of the 16 million going to the big box retailers do you think actually goes back to our community? Very little… On average, approximately 70% of your money spent at these locations leaves the community immediately. Whereas spending your money at a local business has the opposite effect. Between 60-70% of your money goes back to your community when you shop local.
Wait, but I can’t afford to shop at a local boutique or gift shop. I hear this all the time. The truth is, we have been programed to think and act this way. None of us would even blink an eye dropping $300 at the big box store. Its normal, accepted and you've been programed to think you needed all of it.
When you are at a local store, you will literally stop and ponder if you should spend $30 on a unique gift. This is what needs to change!
Besides shopping local, there are many other ways you can support, without spending any money.
