Amna Bakhtiar .bee.comedy is about to take the Melbourne International Comedy Festival by storm! Her monthly show case of the best female and non-binary comics is (aka, Raise the Bar) is debuting at the festival tomorrow. But with a twist. It’s time to RAISE THE BRA!

Playing over 6 nights at the Queen Vic Women’s Centre, you’re guaranteed big laughs in a warm, vibrant environment featuring some of the BEST comic talent from around the world. And tickets are only $22.

Come along for themed nights: Tinder Tales (March 28), Mum’s the Word (March 29), Guilty Pleasures (March 30), Black Widow (April 4), Career Day, (April 5) and Dysfunctional Families (April 6).

Wishing a very Happy Diwali to all those celebrating today 🪔

Diwali is the Indian festival of lights and symbolises light over dark, good over evil, and new beginnings. Something I think we all resonate with now more than ever. Sending love to all those who are hurting right now, and wishing for peace to overcome conflict (always) 🕊️

Glowreel is proud to be highlighting TOUCH. The dance show is premiering at the Melbourne Fringe Festival (hosted by Dance House .melb ) on October 4 - 7 2023.

Created by Deepa Mani () and Sheena Chundee ( ), TOUCH demonstrates the power of merging cultures and the beauty and peace that can be achieved through respect, regardless of race or ethnicity.

Through TOUCH Deepa and Sheena aspire to accomplish several meaningful objectives:

• Cultural Exchange: aiming to showcase the harmonious blend of Bharathanatyam and Ballet, highlighting the beauty of cultural fusion and bridging the gap between these two distinct dance forms.

• Artistic Exploration: The performance serves as a platform for artistic exploration, encouraging both dancers and audiences to delve into new dimensions of creativity and expression.

• Storytelling: Deepa and Sheena hope to tell a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences, addressing themes and issues that are both relevant and thought-provoking.

• Inspiration: The show aims to inspire other artists to break boundaries, challenge conventions, and experiment with innovative collaborations that enrich the world of art.

• Community Building and Empowerment: The performance fosters a sense of community, bringing together people from various backgrounds to celebrate the power of dance and music.

Amna Bakhtiar joined the standup comedy scene 4 years ago - and she was immediately hooked!

Standup comedy helped her find her true voice and figure out what’s important to her. Which is how came to be!

In Melbourne in 2020, Amna noticed there wasn’t a regular space for women to perform comedy. She decided it was time to create one.

Raise The Bar Comedy was brought to life in January 2021. It’s a monthly comedy night in Melbourne that provides a continued, consistent presence of high-quality comedy mainly presented by women and non-binary people.

Raise The Bar is also focussed on variety and true diversity of great quality acts. No two shows are ever the same.

Glowreel caught up with Amna to hear more about her standup comedy journey and how Raise The Bar Comedy came to life.

Small, consistent steps add to big things.

Personally, we like to follow the 1% rule to progress our personal and professional goals: if you can get 1 percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done 💪🏽 (alternatively, if you get 1 percent worse each day for one year, you’ll decline nearly down to zero 😮)

On the days that you can't give 100%, or even 10% just remember that 1% daily will make all the difference 💜

Community Spotlight ✨ Established in 2019 by Shuari Naidoo, @moraka_menstrual_cups wants to reduce the impact of periods on your wallet, and on the planet. Each cup is priced at $20 (NZD) and should last around ten years. This saves up to $5000 in disposable sanitary products over that time, and saves a whole heap of disposal products from ending up in the landfill.
