AN APPEAL TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO ATTEND OUR SECOND AWARENESS CAMPAIGN REGARDING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WINTER CAPITAL IN TURA

Dear Respected Nokmas, Sorders, Laskers, and members of the Garo community,

We, the ASPF, respectfully invite your participation in our Second Awareness Campaign advocating for the establishment of a Winter Capital in Tura. The event is scheduled to be held at the Modhupara LP School playground, located near the Garobadha Baptist Church, on March 1, 2025, at 11:30 a.m.

The demand for Tura to serve as the Winter Capital is rooted in historical agreements made by the founders of our state, which remain unfulfilled to this day. It is, therefore, our rightful duty to advocate for Tura's designation as the Winter Capital.

It is important to clarify that our movement is not positioned against the government; rather, it aims to respectfully remind and appeal to fulfill this long-standing aspiration for our region through democratic means. We earnestly seek your support in these efforts.

The Achik State Peoples' Front (ASPF) strongly condemns external interference in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The so-called leaders of the Minority Sarvadaliya Sammelan demanding electoral representation in the Garo Hills Autonomous Council (GHADC) are directly violating the provisions of the Sixth Schedule. This Sixth Schedule is intended specifically to safeguard the political rights, cultural identity, customs, and territorial sovereignty of Scheduled Tribes.

Our organization is increasingly concerned about the rapid growth of the minority population in the plain belt area. We advocate for the Government to implement a mechanism similar to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to effectively identify and address issues concerning illegal immigrants, settlers, and dual voters.
