Axie Infinity will be deploying updates to Origin at 3:00 PM PHT. The game will be down until the updates are complete.

What’s New:

- Scry can't be canceled anymore. This bug allowed people to look at their next drawn cards without spending energy.

Axie Infinity classic season 21 starts today at 5:00 PM PHT!

This is possibly the last season for the V2 Gameplay before the full transition to the Origin.

Season 21 Launching on April 25th

After consideration, we’ve decided to move forward with S21 for Axie Infinity: Classic (V2) on April 25th as planned. There will be no balancing changes.

Here’s why:

• We previously committed to having S21 and know that many of you were planning on one last chance to take home the Season crown in classic.

• Logistically speaking, running S21 will not divert significant resources from Origin, especially as we will not be doing a card balancing patch.

• We’re confident that you will continue to test and give awesome feedback on Origin and that S21 won’t distract greatly from this process.

The current plan is to continue testing and upgrading Origin while also having S21 run from April 25th to June 24th. After S21 is completed, we should be much closer to having the competitive pillars in place to embark on Origin’s first leaderboard season with a tokenized prize pool. At that time, we will also consider moving SLP rewards from Classic to Origin.

"You’ll now be able to buy axies and other assets using any token. And in the following weeks we’ll ship part 2 of this feature which will allow you to list assets in any token you want.

This feature is all made possible by Katana. When you pay with any token that is not WETH, we’ll automatically use Katana to make the swap for you.

For example, when purchasing an axie using SLP, we’ll use Katana in the background to automatically swap your SLP for WETH, which is then sent to the seller. This all takes place in 1 simple transaction, with no additional steps from the buyer.

During the purchase flow, you’ll be able to review your purchase details, select a token to pay with, and complete the transaction like normal. You get your axie, and the seller gets their WETH."

Axie Infinity: Origin will be available to play via Mavis Hub on April 7th!

We have a full week of leeks & events planned leading up to launch (t-minus 7 days).

While we had originally planned to launch Origin today, after yesterday’s security breach, we needed to reprioritize our efforts and shift the launch date by one week. While the game is ready for a soft launch, we’ve decided to give the engineering and security team an additional window of time to deeply investigate all implications of the breach, before asking for their full attention to support Origin’s release. In the week leading up to launch, we’re excited to engage with the community and share with you all plenty of leeks leading to next week’s release!

BREAKING NEWS: SECURITY BREACH ON THE RONIN NETWORK OF SKY MAVIS 🚨

Statement from Sky Mavis:

The Ronin bridge has been exploited for 173,600 Ethereum and 25.5M USDC.

The Ronin bridge and Katana Dex have been halted.

We are working with law enforcement officials, forensic cryptographers, and our investors to make sure that all funds are recovered or reimbursed. All of the AXS, RON, and SLP on Ronin are safe right now.

Season 20 Is Over!

This was the toughest season of competition yet and we’ve received feedback that the meta was varied with a wide range of viable team compositions. A large part of this was thanks to the awesome suggestions made by the community.

Over 2,600,000 players participated in Season 20! The prize pool of 117,676 AXS was our largest ever, with a current value of almost 6,000,000 USD. Remember, we will be scaling up these rewards over time through various game modes as our products become mature enough to sustain larger distributions of earnable tokens through gameplay achievements.

We know that many of you are interested in the future of this classic battle mode as we prepare for a shift to Axie Infinity: Origin. Right now, we plan on having a 1-month offseason before moving into Season 21 which would likely be the last season of Axie Infinity: Classic.

AXS rewards for Season 20 will be claimable through your marketplace dashboard later this week. We will be conducting a final review of suspicious activity and win-trading before enabling claiming.

Axie Infinity: Origin Soft Launch

All hands are on deck internally around the soft launch of Axie Infinity: Origin.

We want to provide some updates around what our community should expect 👇

The launch of Origin will come in phases. We will start with a small scope and gradually expand in the months after the initial launch.

First, Origin will be launched on desktop devices through the Mavis Hub. This period will center around gathering vital feedback, testing the scalability of our servers, and enabling our community to start adjusting to the new game mechanics.

Next, roughly a month after the release of Origin through desktop, we will launch Origin for Android through a mobile APK. We’ve decided to launch mobile separately to ensure our servers have enough capacity to support millions of players.

Once the mobile and desktop versions are live, we will work towards doing a full launch that also incorporates SLP rewards, NFT Charms / Runes, and has official Seasons. In parallel, we will also be actively working towards making necessary tweaks to the game so that it can be approved and listed in the Android and iOS app stores.

Origin will soft-launch with a limited set of features including PvE story mode, Runes, Charms, training mode, and a ranked mode. Over time, we will iterate and update it to include features such as cosmetics, upgraded parts, tournaments, PVP seasons, and a rogue-like game mode.

Axie Infinity is a community-driven ecosystem. Your feedback will be key to ensuring that we upgrade and improve Origin in a thoughtful and data-driven manner. We couldn’t be more excited to share Origin with all of you. Thank you for your patience as we all eagerly anticipate the next phase of our collective journey.

LAND GAMEPLAY UPDATE

What are the main changes that needed to be reworked which caused the delay in release, other than the move to 3D?

The delayed-release is mostly a byproduct of limited team personnel in 2021. While we now have a new full-time Game Designer and Art Director for Project K, it took considerable time to find the right fit for these roles and we only gained more funding in the latter half of the year. However, throughout this recruitment process, we made considerable progress developing many of the art assets and underlying codebase that don’t need to be remade as we switch towards the new game perspective.

When was the decision to go from 2D to 3D made?

Members of the team have long believed that the game would be best as rendered 3D, but mostly influenced by strategic new hires, we officially made the switch last September.

Can you provide any details about land management?

There will be multiple phases to Project K’s release, but the first test phase will primarily be focused around building up one’s Land in a town-building type game, hence it will only be available to Land Owners. This will involve harvesting and trading resources as well as building and upgrading structures. The focus for this initial phase will be validating our base Land game systems and making sure it all works with a more limited gamer group. There won’t be any token or on-chain gameplay involved, and resources are not planned to be tokenized. The plan is to introduce a new Land-based token resource in the future though. Land Owners will be able to use off-chain “Pawn” Axies in the game to carry out tasks on their Land. Land Items will not have any of their buffs active in Phase 1 but their updated buffs will be introduced in later Phases of Land.

Will there be battles at all in Land's first version?

A major component of the initial gameplay will be selling crafted materials to NPCs, who will do battle across Land. As we progress in our user testing, we are looking to incorporate AXS into this game loop, and Landowners will be able to start earning AXS.

Stay tuned for more information over the days to come! We’re actively working on developing a refreshed set of materials which will go a long way to answering most of these questions. We feel that it’s important to lay down a number of conceptual foundations to properly inform the community’s questions, so a lot of our focus is on this.

That being said, we do want to share an in-game screenshot with you all! We wanted to give you a sense of the scale we’re imagining for the initial release of the game. The land plots have grown from when you’ve last seen them, each measuring 128x128 sectors. It’s all coming together!

Season 20 in the PvP Arena is live.

Key Points
- MMR has been reset, everyone starts at 1200
- PVP season 20 is live with over $7M USD in AXS rewards!
- Daily quest SLP has been removed.
- Adventure mode SLP has been removed.
- SLP rewards have been reduced at certain MMR brackets.
- Trainers under 800 MMR will now receive 1 SLP per win.
- Improvements and bug fixes:
-> Bulkwark/Tiny Catapult and Carrot/Snail shell interaction interaction now works as intended.
-> Bulkwark/Tiny Catapult and Sponge/Bone Sail interaction interaction now works as intended.
-> Players could occasionally hold more than 12 cards on hand, this is now impossible.

Elimination of Adventure Mode and Daily Quest Rewards
As a first measure to stabilize the economy, we have removed all SLP rewards from adventure mode (this includes the SLP rewards for first-time completion.)

Adventure mode was originally conceived as a way for the community to learn how to use their Axies. It has outlived its purpose as a way for people to earn tokens from the game.

Next, we have removed the 25 SLP reward from the daily quest.
The daily quest, in principle, was great to encourage people to play everyday but it’s now become a mass emission mechanism for SLP. By removing the daily quest we are able to reduce issuance by around 45 million SLP per day. We love the idea of quests and hope to re-introduce a quest mechanism in the future through Origin, but this will need to come in tandem with new burn mechanisms from new features.

New AXS Leaderboard Rewards
For Season 20, we’ve expanded the number of leaderboard slots to 300,000 and increased the amount of AXS we’re giving out to 117,676.

This will supercharge the competitive Axie scene and create more demand for quality Axie teams in the ecosystem. This equates to a seven million USD equivalent prize pool for Season 20! This is one of the largest prize pools a game has ever seen and most importantly, it’s being rolled out to millions of gamers all over the world on equal terms. This would not have been possible without Ronin and smart contract-based technology.

We’ve also revised the amount of SLP per win at various MMR brackets. We’ve brought back 1 SLP per win for players under 800 MMR. This will bring some utility to weaker Axies and encourage players to practice even if they’re still learning or having difficulty with the game. Advancements with our bot detection system as well as reduced earnings for bots have also made reintroduction of these rewards possible.

Here are the new MMR brackets and SLP rewards:
0-999 – 0 --> 1 SLP per win
1000-1099 – 3 SLP per win
1100-1299 – 6 --> 5 SLP per win (Rank default)
1300-1499 – 9 --> 6 SLP per win
1500-1799 – 12 --> 8 SLP per win
1800-1999 – 15 --> 10 SLP per win
2000 - 2499 - 18 --> 12 SLP per win
2500+ - 14 SLP per win

Linear Energy Gain For Axies?
As we mentioned in our previous update, we are considering making energy scale more linearly for Axies held on an account. We will look at new data generated by Season 20 to help us further explore this idea.

Today, we take an important step in our mission to build Axie alongside the community.

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Axie Infinity Builders Program! Through this initial experiment, we want to provide resources, promotion, support, and tools for community developers to continue building compelling, valuable gaming experiences on top of Axie.

Community co-creation is a guiding north star of the Axie Infinity ecosystem. It will be a fundamental driver of scaled-value generation over time.

Members of our community have already experimented with these ideas in the past. Their creativity led to some great early mini-games, including Flappy Axie and Axie Sushi. While these early examples helped drive community engagement in 2018/2019, they ultimately were discontinued once Ronin was released.

While we are aware that the current documentation and tools for community development are relatively limited, we believe they can help most people get a good head start. The community’s engagement in the Builders Program will help guide our efforts in helping make it easier and easier to develop experiences and tools over time.

In short, the goal of this program is to further strengthen our community’s ability to create gaming experiences and tools, while managing risk to our community members, and our gaming network at large.

BREAKING: Pre-season 20 Balancing Patch

We’ve just launched a balancing patch! (Check pinned comment for the full list of cards)

We’ve released this patch prior to the release of the season to ensure sufficient time for play-testing. This should catch any unintended mechanics and consequences of the patch. This means that until Season 20 is formally launched, we may launch hot fixes.

Once Season 20 is launched*, the card stats/mechanics will be static for the season. There may be extraordinary cases where a mechanic slips through but in those cases, we will signal through our communication channels in advance and ask for community input. That said, we expect this new process to significantly decrease the probability of such a situation arising (this happened in Season 19 and we heard your feedback loud and clear).

This was the first round of balancing where we actively sought community input. We were delighted by the response and looked through over 40 unique sheets of community suggestions. Many of the sheets were based on objective data and showed a commitment to the best interest of the game. Others were less polished but were fun to look at nonetheless! We see this as one of the initial steps towards bringing the community closer to the act of co-creation around Axie.

Let’s discuss a bit about the reasoning behind balancing changes. In short, the primary goal of card balancing is to ensure that each card is distinct and sufficiently powered so that all cards can be seen as having a balanced set of strengths and weaknesses. We believe that a well-balanced game is more fun. As our game becomes more fun, the economy strengthens which we know is very important.

2021 was a seminal year for Axie Infinity. Over the last year, we truly came together as a community and a movement, which has provided us all incredible opportunities to realize our vision of an expansive gaming digital nation. We hope you enjoyed our end-of-year Project K update, but needless to say, we’ve been hard at work building in the meantime! Currently, the team is focused on building out the Project K trading feature that will enable players to trade various resources with one another. Just to give an idea of how much effort goes into a major feature, the trading system will likely take more than a month to build. Concepts and modeling are also in progress for various assets such as buildings and items.

Axie Infinity: Origin (Battles V3) development has been pushing full steam ahead, with a target alpha test launch in the upcoming months. Here’s some more in-progress power-up art as well as new attack VFX! Notice that the facial expressions that many of said you missed in the last update for the current battles are going to be returning with even more emotion!

📈 Growth
Growth has been moderate recently as the community gears up for a flurry of catalysts and launches in 2022.

Our growth team is hard at work preparing for the launch of Axie Infinity: Origin. Origin will have much easier on-boarding than the current experience as players will be able to receive free starter Axies to start learning and falling in love with Axie before making any economic decisions. This means that new growth strategies will open up as the game becomes easier for our community to show their friends and families.

In addition, Origin will introduce new economic balancing features such as vertical progression of Axies which will introduce much needed sinks for the economy. We are working on both a technical builders program and a creator program to make sure we can keep building together alongside our amazing community. For example, we are currently exploring how to create a referral code that will allow content creators and evangelists to be rewarded for the new citizens they onboard. We are also exploring how to structure a grants system for Axie community developers!

Our E-Sports team is excited to launch a second round of esport grants in the coming days, stay tuned!

🛠️ Sky Mavis

The organization has been working around the clock to grow our team along with all aspects of the organization. We are now well past 100 team members, all of them focusing on different projects such as Project K, Origin, Katana, and Ronin. In particular, over the past month, we have grown our art team considerably, bringing on a number of new animators, concept artists, and 3D artists. • Axies have let go of their wings! Instead of floating, they will now be standing in battle. We also added additional battle effects.
• Match history is now saved on the servers.
• We added a button to decline all friend requests.

BREAKING: We will reset the Off-Season MMR to 1200 for all players.

We had looked into doing more granular MMR reset adjustments for different levels of MMR, but it wasn’t feasible given numerous factors and trade-offs.
