As Black women, we firmly believe in reading books by Black authors all year 'round. It's a big part of why we started the Horror Heaux Support Group — to highlight books by Black authors (and other POC) beyond the history months.

We hope you've got some Black authors on your reading list this month, and every month hereafter, and that your list includes books that aren't specifically about racialized trauma. Here are a few recs, and if you have a few of your own, comment below!

Today we're recommending Planet Dead, a zombie book written by . This book follows a woman named Catherine as she navigates a world where zombies have fully taken over.

This book will appeal to fans of Dread Nation by .Ireland, which follows a teen named Jane as she studies to become an Attendant, a person who protects members of the upper class from zombies.
