As we grow, we’re delighted to announce that acclaimed and accomplished restaurant and drinks writer Douglas Blyde has joined our team.

With his expert eye and experienced palate, he will be seeking out the UK’s best sommeliers to share their stories and uncover the finest restaurant wine lists.

Douglas will also be leading the Sommelier Edit Awards, identifying the best drinks available and helping you discover some delicious new wines. Plus, you’ll have the chance to meet him at member events he’ll be hosting later this year.

Join us in welcoming Douglas to Sommelier Edit. We’re looking forward to his first article, coming out later this month.

Ahead of Sommelier Edit’s first No & Low Summit to inspire sommeliers on why alcohol free drinks are now an absolute must, we asked Maria Boumpa, head sommelier at Da Terra, why it’s now about way more than just mocktails.

When you don’t want booze in a restaurant, you are normally forced to opt for a bottle of sparkling water. There’s not much else on offer. The problem is that when you are spending your hard earned cash on a great meal you, but don’t want to drink, you might fancy something a bit more grown-up or complex. Something that matches with the food you are ordering, as you would expect from a wine.

This is where the sommelier comes into action and many are now developing their NOLO offer to encompass much more that just mocktails. Now the savvy diner expects and demands more.

Anyone who’s had the opportunity to taste the exceptional rieslings from Schloss Johannisberg will already know what they represent.

We spoke to Stefan Doktor to hear first hand how Schloss Johannisberg’s status is much more than a winery. It represents the enduring legacy and excellence of German winemaking. Making wine for a millennium of history it has developed a profound understanding of the estate’s terroir and how Riesling ineracts with the soil, climate and positioning to cultivate wines that are celebrated worldwide.

Whether you adore dry Riesling for its crisp acidity and aromatic character or indulging in lush, sweet wines, each bottle of Schloss Johannisberg gives you a taste of history. Tradition, innovation and respect for the land over 1,000 years all in one glass.
