The Garner brothers (Drew and Craig) were all smiles after an incredible weekend of wrestling. The Troup Tigers advanced to the state-championship match of the Class AAA state duals before falling to powerhouse Jefferson on Saturday afternoon. It was a phenomenal showing for the Tigers, who are led by former Troup wrestling standout Drew Garner, who has done a fantastic job as head coach at his alma mater. Perhaps no one was prouder of Drew than his big brother Craig, who is a former state-championship wrestler at Troup who later returned to the school and won a bunch of games as the baseball coach and was also a successful wrestling coach. For a while, Drew and Craig coached wrestling together at the high school, and now Craig leads the Troup youth program which is thriving. Drew and Craig were both part of the Troup wrestling dynasty under legendary coach Dariel Daniel, and as coaches they've helped revive a program that had gone through some challenging times. The Troup wrestling program means so much to Drew and Craig, and I know it was special for both of them to see the team competing for a state championship. They're both also first-class people in addition to being excellent coaches, so the young people they lead are in great hands.
