She made history on Broadway in her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago as the first out+proud trans woman to headline a Broadway show. She has also dazzled on the TV screen in , in a cast full of talented trans women of color, as the endlessly watchable and quotable Candy.

Some may try to censor our history, our stages, our books, but we refuse to back down. We know the truth - and it’s that ***rAF. 💓

I can't even begin to describe the relief and also disbelief I have at this moment. I think I am still in shock. There were so many moments when I wanted to tell folks that what they were saying was not true...simply not fact, or even based on our families lived experience, or the REAL/LIVED experiences of the many families I met (and call chosen family) over the last six years who love and affirm their trans/non-binary children. I just sat there angry, but then
's teen spoke at the podium, and when I heard them say, " I am a PERSON not a CONDITION" I just lost it. Imagine being a 15 year old person, and having to state that very simple fact to state lawmakers who are trying pass legislation to keep you from accessing medical care you need!! I can't imagine having to do that at their age. I'm in awe!! In awe of our kids, our community, and the collective power of parents showing up to protect the rights of their vulnerable kids. In complete awe ✊🏼😍💜

Senate Bill 1138 (an anti-trans medical ban bill) has been assigned to committee this Wednesday, 2/9 at 8:30am. If possible, we would like to have as many parents, allies and partners who feel safe to be there in-person to testify. We are recommending N95 masks. A few notes on SB1138 (full bill text here) from HRC's legal team, on what the bill is trying to do:
The bill states it will be considered "unprofessional conduct" to provide/refer for "gender transition procedures."
Public money can't be used, and costs aren't tax deductible or reimbursable by the state cost containment system.
A health benefits plan may not contain gender transition coverage.
"Gender transition procedures" include puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, surgery.
There are repeated exclusions for intersex people.

///: ❌ SB 1165, which bans trans students from playing on a sports team aligned with their gender identity, passed in the Senate Judiciary committee last week despite many brave parents and community members speaking out against it. This is just one of many anti-LGBTQ bills that have been dropped this session, and we will do everything we can to stop them.

🚨SB 1130 was pushed from last week’s agenda and will now be heard TOMORROW. This bill prohibits gender affirming care for trans youth. It subjects physicians to up to 15 years in prison for providing a patient with medically-necessary, evidence-based care that is supported by every major medical association in the United States.

SB 1165, SB 1130, and all other bills like them MUST be stopped. Take action now by contacting your representatives and telling them to OPPOSE these harmful bills. See our bio link to send them a letter now!

Early on in our gender journey we established care with a Clinical Psychologist that specializes in working with trans kids/youth. We have been seeing him for years now, he is a part of our care team, and he's been such a source of support for Daniel. In one of our earliest sessions I asked him, "when should I expect the other shoe to drop. I am worried all the time, and I just want to be prepared! I've read the statistics about suicide...I'm scared". He looked at me and said, "It doesn't have to drop, so long as you keep to the commitments and the promises that you make. If you promise to affirm him and you stick to it you should be ok".

Affirming Daniel, building a community around him, establishing a care team, and advocating for him is not child abuse. I love my child! As parents of trans youth, we do our best to become informed, we speak to experts, and make decisions that we know are best for them. All Jose and I want to do is keep him safe, healthy, happy, and alive. That was the promise I made when he was born...to do the best I could to ensure he had the best life possible. The idea of Daniel losing access to the medical care we promised him is terrifying. Medical care is private, personal, and the decisions about my child's care should only be made by us (his parents) and the care team of experts we've relied on for years. SB1130 and bills like this harm trans youth. They infringe on the rights of parents like myself who are making the best most loving decision for their youth. Please tell AZ lawmakers that you don't support discriminatory bills like SB1130.

I was invited to join a school training that

were leading today, and was reminded of the fact that only 34% of lgbtqia youth are supported at home!! ONLY 34% have a supportive guardian or parent!!

This clip is a reminder of why parent support is important, and why support in school is necessary!! Parents and educators are foundational! Proximity changes hearts, and I hope our stories and advocacy continue to help build a more inclusive future for our lgbtqia loved ones. We will keep pushing and doing that heart work.
