New rent-a-plant program at IUPUC takes a bite out of pest problems

It bugs us too: when little six-legged visitors get into the office and won't stop buzzing around your desk, light fixtures or food-prep areas. It's the worst! 🙅

Barbara Hass Jacobus, biology program coordinator at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC), has just the solution for this problem – carnivorous plant rental!

Faculty and staff are all abuzz about a new rent-a-plant program at IUPUC that allows employees to borrow a carnivorous plant that eats gnats and fruit flies in their office space.

New federal law will make some IU employees eligible for overtime pay

Many affected employees received notification from HR this week that their positions now qualify for overtime compensation according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Some IU employees will soon be eligible to earn overtime compensation due to new Fair Labor Standards Act rules from the U.S. Department of Labor. The rules were announced in May and determine what positions are eligible for overtime.

Chemist Victor Waingeh unlocks secrets of traditional medicine in his native Cameroon

Cold and flu season are just around the corner, and many of us rely on help from medical professionals and prescriptions to overcome illness.

In many places around the world, however, people rely on the ancient wisdom and experience of traditional healers.

Indiana University Southeast associate professor of chemistry Victor Waingeh, born and raised in the Kom region of Cameroon, wanted to examine the links between traditional medical practices and modern scientific methods. What he found was surprising!

IU writers share Indiana’s history in ‘Finding Home,’ a bicentennial stage production

During times of great change, taking a look back at our heritage can help us understand the challenges we have already overcome here in the Hoosier state and make clearer the way forward.

IU to conduct first all-campus disaster-preparedness exercise

Today, Indiana University communicators from across the state are meeting at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) to engage in a tabletop activity. The exercise, designed by IU Emergency Management and Continuity, will be conducted as though a catastrophic earthquake has caused significant damage to various campuses. System-wide earthquake drills scheduled for tomorrow are part of The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.
