The Faculty of Communication and Management Studies (FCMS) at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, recently organized its second biennial conference, held over three days from May 14th to 16th, 2024, at the institution's Assembly Hall. The event, which featured both virtual and physical participation, brought together esteemed academicians and industry experts from various institutions across Nigeria.

The conference, themed “Global Crises and World Economics: Implications for Nigeria,” aimed to address pressing global issues and their impacts on the Nigerian economy.

Dr. Gbade Akinteye, the Acting Rector of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, served as the chief host of the conference. In his welcome address, he expressed his gratitude to the organizers, sponsors, presenters, and participants for their dedication to the event. He highlighted the relevance of the conference theme, emphasizing the interconnectedness of global crises and their significant effects on Nigeria.

"It is with great pleasure and honor that I welcome you all to the 2nd biennial Conference of the Faculty (FCMS) of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa," said Dr. Akinteye. "Our theme for this conference, 'Global Crises and World Economics: Implications for Nigeria,' couldn’t be more timely or relevant. In today’s interconnected world, the challenges and crises faced by nations across the globe have profound implications for our own country, Nigeria," he continued.

Professor A.S. Bankole from the Department of Economics at the University of Ibadan delivered the keynote address. He discussed the economic downturns brought about by global crises, noting their impact on government revenue, infrastructure spending, and social programs. Prof. Bankole emphasized the need for Nigeria to adopt a multifaceted approach to mitigate these effects and promote long-term resilience and prosperity.

"In the face of the challenges identified, Nigeria must adopt a multifaceted approach to investigate the impact of global economic crises and promote long-term resilience and prosperity," he stated. "This approach should encompass efforts to diversify the economy away from oil dependence, strengthen domestic institutions and governance frameworks, enhance social protection mechanisms, and foster inclusive growth and human capital development."

Mrs. Deborah Oduwole, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Management Studies, in her opening remarks, underscored the importance of collective criticism and expertise in addressing Nigeria's challenges. She expressed confidence in the contributions of the conference attendees in shaping a path towards shared prosperity and sustainable development.

Professor Saliu Adelabu, Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, also addressed the conference. He lamented Nigeria's slow progress towards achieving international development goals and emphasized the urgent need for reforms to address the nation's economic crises.

"We can’t talk about all the crises without discussing the financial crises," said Prof. Adelabu. "We are in a serious financial crisis, from international to local levels. If the whole world is operating as if tomorrow is 2099, here in Nigeria we are acting as if we are still in the 5th century. We need to urgently address the menace of economic crises and their implications for our nation."

Oladeji, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, expressed his gratitude to the entire governing council, management team, staff, and students of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, for their unwavering support.
