My brother moved into a new house recently. “It’s a beautiful place,” I said to him, “But it’s going to take a while for it to become a home.”

When we moved into our current house almost 20 years ago, I remember saying the same thing. As I sat on the back porch staring out into the strange landscape in front of me, I thought, “This is a beautiful house, but it’s not a home —at least not yet.”

But what makes a house a home?

I’ve begun a new project where I hope to tackle that issue. What is home? Where do we find home? What does it take to make a home? As I prepare to write what will be my third book, I’m asking for your help. I’d love to know what home means to you. It’s easy enough. Leave you thoughts in the comments. Tell me what home means to you? When you feel at home and why? What you need to make a place a home?
