This big house was a former care home for mental health patients, not sure how long it has been sat derelict for. I would imagine it was once a very beautiful home. Such a shame to see it left to rot, nature is slowly creeping in to the house.

Robertson House/Treloar Hospital

Sir William Purdie Treloar, a previous Lord Mayor of London and a long campaigner on behalf of crippled children, formed the ‘Lord Mayor Treloar’s Cripple’s Home and College Trust’, which acquired the former Army hospital in 1907.

It was to be used as a hospital to treat children of both sexes up to the age of 12 who were suffering from tuberculosis disease of the bones or joints.

The associated College aimed to provide ‘technical instruction to cripple boys of 14 years of age and upwards, to enable them to earn their own living’.

This institution was opened on 8 September 1908, and within a few years children were arriving from all over the country.

The hospital was fortunate to have its own railway platform on the Alton – Basingstoke branch line known as Alton Park.

The original hutted hospital was partly rebuilt between 1929 and 1937 and until the early 1950's the hospital and college facilities were side by side.
The Hospital was taken over by the National Health Service in 1948 and the College acquired a site at Froyle Place, moving there in 1953.

The Florence Treloar School for Girls was opened at Holybourne in 1965.
In 1978 the boy’s college at Froyle and the Florence Treloar School for girls were amalgamated to provide a co-educational establishment called Lord Mayor Treloar College, with the Lower School at Froyle and the Upper School at Holybourne.

In 1995 the Froyle site became the Lord Mayor Treloar School, whilst the Holybourne site became a National Specialist College for Further Education. Both parts of Treloars are now at Holybourne and the Froyle site has been sold.

The Lord Mayor Treloar Hospital in Chawton Park Road was threatened with closure in the 1970s, but survived to serve the community until 1994.

Henry and Irene lived in the property where their son and daughter, Philip and Moira were born.
Although the two children grew up, married and moved out, it appears their parents never put away any of their children's old things, you can still find babies cribs, children's clothes, books and toys on the second floor.
After Philip and Moira left (seemingly by some time around the mid 1970s) their parents continued to live there, the decorations and furniture still stuck pretty firmly in the 1950's/60's.
However, in 1994, Henry died. Following this it appears his wife Irene left the house as it was, moved in to a bungalow next door, boarded up the old place and refused to allow anyone to touch it right up until she died in 2016.
By this time her daughter Moira had also passed away leaving only Philip the only living member of the family and heir to the home. (From talking to the neighbour it seems Philip has no children to pass the house on to.) Philip apparently doesn't want anything to do with the house and has left it to rot until the time comes when it will eventually be demolished.

The Quarry started it's life in the hands a stone company but when quarrying finished it was put to a new use by the Agaric Mushroom company as a mushroom farm. With it's constant temperature and dark conditions it is the perfect location for mushroom growth.

In 1939 the War Department requisitioned the quarry, carried out some strengthening work and used the quarry to store naval anti-aircraft parts, radio direction finding equipment and optical equipment during the Second World War.

After the war the quarry was handed back to the mushroom company, this was because the roof level was to low in places making it unsuitable for military use plus a near-by Quarry was big enough for the Royal Navy's storage needs by this time.

The quarry was soon put back to use as a mushroom farm until it closed in September 2010.

Following the closure of the mushroom farm the mine was used by criminals to illegally grow a staggering amount of cannabis.

This beautiful tin church. Erected in the 1890's entirely from corrugated metal and wood. It become grade 2 listed after 100 years of it standing.
It was sold in the 1970's and converted in to a one bed home.
The property was sold earlier this year to a young couple who plan on making this place in to a beautiful home.

Very little known about this house I believe it was some sort of refuge, not really sure why it was abandoned. The house was stacked up with people's belongings that have been left behind. There was also police tape round the back of the house that had been ripped off.

Beryl's bungalow.
I imagine this was once a very well kept home, it is clear that beryl liked collecting special ornaments and glasses etc.. was a shame to see local kids had been in smashing things and ransacking through her personal belongings. The bungalow has been sold to developers who have since demolished the bungalow.

The earliest fabric in the church dates from the early 11th century.

The church originally served a village which has subsequently been deserted.

Between the 17th and 19th centuries, the estate was owned by Roman Catholic families, and was used to hide recusant priests.

The church trust has since saved the church.

The tiny chapel.

This is the smallest Chapel I've been in, it was built by Paul who purchased 10 acres of woodland in the early 1970's.

It took 2 years to build from donations of stone he had acquired, Paul built this in his spare time and by hand.

The shrine opened around the1980's, there is a plaque above the altar in the chapel that was dedicated to Pauls wife who died in the late 1990's.

It’s hidden in the vast woods in a slight state of decay, hopefully one day someone will save it.
Pictures are from my visit 2 years ago.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine, is a salt mine in the town of Wieliczka, near Kraków in southern Poland.

From Neolithic times, sodium chloride (table salt) was produced there from the upwelling brine. The Wieliczka salt mine, excavated from the 13th century, produced table salt continuously until 2007, as one of the world's oldest operating salt mines. Throughout its history, the royal salt mine was operated by the Żupy Krakowskie (Kraków Salt Mines) company.

Due to falling salt prices and mine flooding, commercial salt mining was discontinued in 1996.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is now an official Polish Historic Monument (Pomnik Historii) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its attractions include the shafts and labyrinthine passageways, displays of historic salt-mining technology, an underground lake, four chapels and numerous statues carved by miners out of the rock salt, and more recent sculptures by contemporary artists.

Throop Mill stands on the site of older watermills. One was recorded there in the Domesday survey of 1086.

The mill was operated by various businesses over its long history, including producers of 'hardtack', or ships biscuits. These rock-hard biscuits, made with flour, water and salt, were the staple diet of Tudor sailors on long voyages.

The Mill is a sizeable building and four storeys high. It is a traditional water mill being fed by a mill stream tapped off the main River Stour. There is a single chamber through which the water flowed. The original turbine is now sat rusting away in the middle of the lawn immediately in front of the mill.

Unfortunately no access for inside pics much to my disappointment.

Wetsbury House

In it's time, it has been a family home, a school, a care home, and the location of a data breach

The house currently standing today was built in 1904 after a fire destroyed the original house. Before the blaze, the manor of Westbury was passed through different wealthy and notorious families.

In the mid-1800s, opera singer Adelaide Sartoris and her husband Edward lived in the home.

Twenty years after the fire, in 1924, the home re-opened as a boys’ preparatory school. Despite investing in the school in a bid to deliver a first class education, it would be closed in the 1970s.

In 1982, the home was first opened as a Westbury House Nursing Home.

However, by 2016 the services offered by Westbury House were deemed 'inadequate' by the Care Quality Commission.

In the 2016 report, the CQC wrote that the care home "posed a significant threat to people's health and well being and we were not assured that people were receiving safe and effective care from sufficient numbers of suitably trained staff."

The regulator found that residents were not sufficiently cared for and potential abuse had not been reported.

Following the final report in July 2016, the care home was shut down and abandoned.

While the building was left to become derelict and rundown, the site became home to another scandal.

It became clear that files and paperwork had not been cleared from the property which resulted in a huge data breach.

Now the owner of the property, Dr Usha Naqvi, has submitted a pre-planning application to the South Downs National Park local authority.

The plans submitted show the intention to demolish the former care home to build 10 new dwellings on the site.

In the consultation response, the former care home is said to be in a "dilapidated state beyond viable restoration" because the home wasn't secured from external weather

No one has commented on the pre-planning application so it remains unknown whether this new plan would be welcomed by the public.

However, in the response written by the council, they write that "considerable efforts" will be needed to develop the application and officers have encouraged the owner not to submit the plans as they currently stand.

Former chilled food factory where about 400 people were employed. The site is about 126 years old and closed for business in 2018.

The developer met with council representatives in November 2020, with a number of possible changes to the proposals being discussed - including the retention of the Mill and the Creamery buildings, and providing more employment and community facilites within the site.

Amended proposals were published on the council's planning portal in mid-March, with the developer making a number of modifications.

Under the new proposals, the number of homes planned for the site has been reduced from 129 to 106 - of which 32 will be affordable.

The Mill building - which dates back to the 1860s - will be retained and renovated to provide either a community venue (such as a village hall) or employment units, with 30 new parking spaces being provided nearby.

A spokesman said: "Following comments received from the council and the public, it is proposed to seek the retention of the Mill, which it is considered can be sensitively renovated and brought back into beneficial use.

Works would look to demolish the later additions, and retain and reinstate the building’s original features, with a contemporary and industrial internal fit out which reflects the building’s industrial past.

This medieval grade II listed church was completely rebuilt c.1860 but incorporates some re-used 12thc fragments, presumably from that church. It comprises a chancel, nave, N and S transepts and a S tower with spire over a porch.

The chancel arch has been much rebuilt and also probably widened. It is of one order with a roll-moulding surmounted by a chevron-patterned hood-moulding to either face, set off chamfered abaci. Some original stones survive to the S reveal, which have vertical rough tooth-chiselled tooling.

The church was formerly used by a school. The abandoned church is presently redundant and rapidly falling into disrepair.

This abandoned shop has been left empty for decades.

It used to be full of wonderful items but they have slowly disappeared.
The roof on part of the building has collapsed and is now in quite a bad state of repair.

Planning Enforcement and Housing are currently aware of the poor state of the property which has been stuck in probate since the last owner passed away.

Housing were involved in long term discussions with the current owner about the future plans for the building.
