A delay at Humberside left me with just 25 mins to catch my connection in Amsterdam — full-on Olympic sprint mode 🏃‍♂️💨

Somehow, I made it. Even crazier? My suitcase did too (skinny jeans + 30°C heat for 4 days would've been rough 🥵

What’s better than working with one leader in the health and fitness space? 💪

Working with two 💪💪

10 months in, working with a true pioneer in the NHS , I learned of an exciting project involving an old client of mine: Giuseppe who runs a packed-out private training facility at

An old cabin in the medical centre car park is about to be transformed into a fully kitted out “Health Pod”: a place to educate, rehabilitate and get stronger.

Staff and patients are already in good hands here at Thistlemoor, and it’s about to get even better.

I was asked to “grab a couple of before shots”, but I’m Simon Yau and I do things properly. I’m all-in on showcasing this project with an interview piece that we’re building over the next couple of months.

I see a lot of before/after content on here: just two photos - like a sandwich with no filling ☹️

Do your storytelling a favour and get all the meaty steps along the way 🤌

🎥: swipe along to see Neil of Thistlemoor Medical Centre and Giuseppe of talking about decor and design of the entrance.

“My scheduled posts aren’t getting much engagement.”

That’s what said over coffee this morning.

I asked, “How are you measuring that?” 🤔

It’s easy to think likes = success. That 10 likes = a flop, and that we look like nobodies.

But imagine if 10 people complimented you in person today - you’d feel pretty good.

Reminder if you’re a small business owner or entrepreneur, your goal isn’t just to sell — it’s to build a reputation first:

💡 Share who you are.
💡 Share what you do.
💡 Share who you’ve helped.

Again and again.

I read somewhere that only once you’ve posted 1,000 times on here, will people see a reason to buy in 🤷‍♂️

“It takes 20 years to make an overnight success.”

Take in this photo on our recent content shoot— he hasn’t “sold” anything on here since I met him a couple of years ago.

But by consistently showing up as himself, he’s more than doubled his audience - and now has people left right and centre asking him to do talks.

Note to self and all: Play the long game. Show up. Keep building. 🚀

This is only my 372nd post, see you at 1000.

A wholesome vibe at a promo shoot for with .alzalam , founder and principal dance teacher.

Alongside the promo video was a package of stills. This created a library of high-quality thumbnails of the different age groups that attend these classes.

And as the saying goes: you attract what you post.

Had a blast seeing these mini humans own it in ballet, tap, contemporary modern jazz, acro dance, street and commercial and musical theatre 😮‍💨👏

Promo video breakdown coming soon so you know EXACTLY what you need to say in yours 👀

First and last photo 🤦‍♂️

I’ve been working with - a leading NHS medical centre - since April ‘24. Month after month of success stories in film are created to engage their audience and show why they are leaders in their field.

Now we’re back to basics to with high-end “meet the team” content; putting friendly faces across the website, marketing, and waiting room screens.

I have a mobile studio setup, I tell them exactly what to do with their hands, how to stand, and we choose their fave shots on the spot before they leave.

Whether you’re a nurse, online coach, nutrition expert, mentor… you have the potential to change lives.

The very least you can do is put some effort into a profile picture that reflects this - the rest of your content, do what you like.

It’s 2025. A bathroom mirror selfie with a head tilt doesn’t cut it.

“As a business, it’s more important than ever to show personality on here”.

I type “photographer” “videographer” or “online fitness coach” in the search field on this app - literally hundreds if not thousands come up.

Hot take: we all look exactly the same to Joe Public: we jump on the same trends, use the same selfie cam, create the same content and offer the same services - or just wing it.

And we wonder why we don’t stand out on here 🤔

Business owners: a reminder to share what you do, who you help, and - importantly - why it matters.

And hit repeat.

Business owners in 2025…

I haven’t posted for 3 weeks but guess what - I still woke up, the world is still turning, and January is still a record-breaking shoot diary.

In 2025, I say don’t let the pressure of “showing up” on social media take over your life. Yes it can be important for generating business, but so is the other stuff behind-the-scenes:

Sleep, training, family, and fuelling yourself properly. No you don’t have to video and post it all online for validation.

So when you do show up on here as a business, it’s with impact and personality: say who you are, what you do and who you’ve helped - over and over again.

Do the opposite of trends: be you, because everyone else is already taken.

Also, if you’re going against popular opinion, make sure you’re right.

My opinion is that professionally-made content is only as valuable as the content behind it. Otherwise it’s like covering a turd in glitter.

So check your ideas work first by filming yourself - before taking things to the next level.

Stills from a promo video shoot with .dirita , Student Mentor and Life Coach.

You're running a business in 2025... do your followers ACTUALLY know 1) who you are, 2) what you do and 3) who you've helped?

New followers should be able to learn this as soon as they land on your website and social media feeds - pin this kind of hero post to the top so it stays there.

Whilst I normally aim for a 60-90 second video, Merinda's services and story needed longer, to showcase the quality of client testimonials.

The good, bad and the ugly of shooting a new CrossFit Licensed event abroad - the “December Classic” 2024, 14-15/12/24

GOOD:
Being well and truly looked after by ex Games athlete and mastermind behind the event: transported, fed, and welcomed by his team throughout the 4-day adventure

BAD:
Exchanging 3°C in UK for 30°C in Suriname came with its own challenges for all-day filming: sunburn, dehydration, cameras becoming too hot to hold

UGLY:
I crashed my drone flying it indoors (rest in pieces)
Mosquitos feasting on my legs

All that being said… same again next year please 👍

Lots of video content incoming 👀
