Today, I’ve gone round the sun 41 times 🎂

It’s usually the time of year I drop words of wisdom, sift through all the noise I’ve consumed about work/life - and think about how I’m probably now closer to death than birth.

To maintain tradition…

Eat the donut.
Be vulnerable.
Talk to, not at, people.
Life really does begin at 40.
Money isn’t the only currency.
Take more photos of your loved ones.
Better to be trustworthy offline, than famous online.

I’m Simon: a husband, dad, and camera nerd. And after quitting a decade of corporate rat racing as a nuclear engineer, I’ve finally made it to 5 years of self employment with more income, freedom and mental health issues than I could’ve hoped for.

How best to showcase your health & fitness community? That you actually are a leader in your field?

For their grand opening day, .martialarts “wanted some video” - say no more.

They didn’t want it to be a promo, they wanted to share their story - right up my street.

We planned a simple interview with the owners and for sound bites, and then captured the day as it unfolded.

No spotlight on free trials, pricing, features - just “why” they are there, and a heap of personality in the outtakes at the end.

Over 11.5k organic views on FB for a brand new business, and timeless images that celebrate “day zero”.

That’s how you open with a bang 💥

After blasting social media almost every day in 2024, I see the posts that helped me the most weren’t the ones that got the most likes.

It was the ones that generated a DM, which then lead to opportunity.

Not always to directly paid work, but getting in front of decision makers, and word of mouth referrals because we connected over good conversation.

So my take in summer 2025…

If you define your worth by likes: post on socials pretending everything is sunshine and rainbows.

If you actually want people to reach out for your help: show you’re in demand, talk real and if you have a controversial opinion - make sure you’re right.

The original plan was a short and catchy 60-second hype video. Instead we got something twice as long and even more meaningful.

Unscripted interviews bring out the passion and personality in a business - and they have it in spades here.

🎵It's fun to stay at the.... (you know the song)🎵

YMCA Lincolnshire reached out saying they had trouble getting eyes on their offer.

Parents and children in the local community simply weren't aware of the incredible facilities, activities and opportunities that are provided by the Youth Service.

Instead of waiting for enquiries, why not put something out into the world to show them instead?

In 80 seconds, they explain:
• who they are
• what they do
• who they help
- a classic business promotional video.

It's the video you pin to the top of social feeds, on website homepages, and something you can share again and again in DMs, digital newsletters, emails.

Why should athletes choose yours?

We are in fast food culture - we expect content “now, or it didn’t happen”.

Following the Caribbean work, I have at least four more beach-themed fitness events to shoot this year, UK and abroad.

Here’s my core services to help make your beach/gym event look elite on the day:

1. WORKOUT RECAP VIDEOS:
• Short fast-cut action montages to music (up to 30s long)
• Assumption is 4x workouts a day = 4x videos
• Edited on-the-go to post at start of next workout

2. DAY HIGHLIGHT VIDEO:
• Show off the location, workouts, vendors, pain faces, smiles, vibes and create fomo
• Filmed and edited, ready to drop at end of day

3. ATHLETE PHOTOGRAPHY:
• High-end high-volume event coverage (800+ images)
• Hero shots edited on-the-go to drip feed into socials
• The rest, all edited and delivered no later than 48 hours after the event

The main reason I quit my corporate career a few years ago, was being stuck behind a computer screen most of the time.

Now I’m “living the dream” as a whole time commercial shooter… still stuck behind a computer screen most of the time 😅

Like many of my clients in health and fitness space, the laptop lifestyle is a necessary evil. It’s our tool to get new clients and retain existing ones.

➡️ If you’re trying to get new clients: create a post/carousel/video that explains who you are, what you do, and who you help. Use DMs to start conversations.

➡️ If you’re trying to build trust: don’t just give “top tips” from ChatGPT but explain why they matter for YOUR clients

➡️ If you’re trying to retain existing clients, celebrate their wins and make them feel heard.

🤷‍♂️ If you’re busy enough, give social media a break

The real stuff.

On a recent call with the Event Director from , we got into this exact convo - how do you show what it feels like to be at an outdoor, weekend-long, festival-style fitness event?

Spoiler: it’s not just reps and PRs.�
It’s 1% beast mode, 99% chill mode: enjoying the sun, beach, bbq, booze, food, DJ and the portaloos to squeeze out that nervous pre-WOD turd

It reminded me of these shots I took almost 5 years ago at . No heavy lifts, no sweat angels - just timeless vibes.

Here’s the thing: the fitness world is drowning in “epic” content. Everyone’s trying to look like an action hero.

But if your gym, event, or coaching biz says it’s for everyone, then represent them all in your content.

Here’s an idea: show people having a good time.

A delay at Humberside left me with just 25 mins to catch my connection in Amsterdam — full-on Olympic sprint mode 🏃‍♂️💨

Somehow, I made it. Even crazier? My suitcase did too (skinny jeans + 30°C heat for 4 days would've been rough 🥵

Filming a weekend-long CrossFit competition - coating my laptop in sweat, editing & distributing high-energy short-form video content in real time so the wider fitness community can tune in and engage 💻📱🤩

Came back with a mild sunburn, sand everywhere, and some photo souvenirs

Next stops: Barbados in August 🌴 and Guyana in December ✈️
