This pic is taken in the oldest monastery of Spiti valley which is among the world’s top 100 endangered monuments.

In all the monasteries we visited there was one thing in common, monks have been very welcoming, we were greeted with herbal tea even got invited for the festive lunch.. The warmth we received was incredible.. .

Strategically built at highest location in Spiti Valley, Dhankar Monastery was once the capital of Spiti in 17th century. It is one of the five main Buddhist centres and tourist destinations in Spiti region.
Home to 80 lamas.. Dhankar has a new monastery too since old Gompa is fragile and at a time only 20 people can enter in it..
