The national aeronautics and space administration (nasa) has warned of a solar storm expected to reach earth on november 30, triggered by a coronal mass ejection (cme) and a 15-hour g2-class solar flare on sunday. while the impact is forecasted to be relatively minor, with auroras likely visible at high latitudes, there may be minor disruptions to radio and gps signals. space weather specialist dr. tamitha skov emphasized that the majority of the flare is expected to bypass earth. solar storms, when significant, can disrupt communication systems, causing short-term issues such as radio and gps signal disturbances, but they are generally not harmful to humans on earth's surface.

STATE OF CALAMITY IN PHILIPPINES

The local government of Northern Samar placed the province under a state of calamity on Tuesday following incessant rains that resulted in flooding and damage to agriculture and infrastructure.

Governor Edwin Ongchuan made the announcement upon the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Rescue operations to residents trapped in flood waters were still being conducted by the authorities.

In Catarman town, police who were conducting rescue operations had to brave the strong current of floodwater to help residents who were asking for assistance to be evacuated.

As of Tuesday, the PRO8 recorded at least 91 villages affected by the floods from 10 towns. Flooded affected villages in Palapag are yet to be determined.

STATE OF CALAMITY IN PHILIPPINES

The town of Glan, Sarangani has been placed under a State of Calamity due to the severity of the damage it sustained in the magnitude 6.8 earthquake last Friday.

Several structures, houses, roads, as well as the municipality and port in Glan were destroyed due to the strong earthquake.

There were also landslides and large cracks in the ground.

Meanwhile, according to local disaster officials, the cost of damage to the roads in Sarangani alone has reached P21.9 million.

The damage to provincial roads in the town of Malapatan was the greatest, amounting to P9.1 million. It was followed by Glan, P8.9 million, Malungon P3.6 million and Alabel P240,000.

TORNADO IN ARIZONA, U.S.

STAR VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) — A tornado that hit the town of Star Valley prompted the National Weather Service’s Flagstaff branch to survey damage to the area, the organization said Sunday.

The damage was found to be consistent with an EF-1 tornado, with estimated peak winds ranging between 95 and 105 mph.

Officials from the town located about 95 miles northeast of Phoenix said at least 10 homes were damaged due to the wind, according to ABC15 Arizona.

Nobody was hurt in the tornado, but the gusts killed a dog, according to the TV station.

Windstorms that lashed several regions of Siberia led to massive power outages on Sunday, leaving some 225,000 Russians without electricity.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 occurred in Calbiga, Samar this morning at 12:57 p.m. The epicenter of the earthquake was at 11.54°N, 125.14°E - 016 km S 55° E of Calbiga (Samar). It has a depth of 77 kilometers and is Tectonic in origin.

In the first report of PHIVOLCS related to the earthquake, Intensity VI was felt in Palo Leyte and Intensity V in Catbalogan, Samar.
