The February Employee of the Month is…..Odie!!!!

This is my boyfriend Shawn’s dog. She has been very supportive this month by sitting on the top of every chair and couch I am on while I work on the podcast.

Some fun facts about Odie are:
🔹She always shows us her grill (smiles) when we walk through the door.
🔹She loves going through the car wash
🔹Her favorite hobby is to trap squirrels in trees.

One of my favorite things about mysteries is the “bad guy” could be anyone. You even like them sometimes. This book series has so many complex characters it really makes for a great read.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day Crew!🍀

If you haven’t listened to the new episode here are some personal updates.

🐈‍⬛ We adopted a new cat name Chansey. Other aliases are Chance, the Chancellor and Sir Chancealot.
We are now a huge family of 8!👨‍👩‍👧🐈‍⬛🐈🦮🐕‍🦺🐕

🏥As you can see from the picture I had surgery today. I am home and feeling better and I definitely wore my lucky socks🍀 Hopefully I will be back to Jolly Reading very soon. It is a 8 week recovery so I plan on doing lots of reading while I am laid up. 📕

Long story short I have been having some medical issues and I have to have surgery on Saint Patrick’s Day 🍀 Unrelated my whole family tested Positive for Covid a week and a half ago. So I haven’t been feeling the best recently to say the least.

Stevie Bell is back after “solving” the Ellingham case. I am hoping this is her last amateur sleuthing project. 😒

This time Stevie is attempting to solve a quadruple murder of camp counselors in the 1970s ⛺️

The Box in the Woods Episode I leaves me hopeful that this will be more interesting than The Truly Devious series.

Happy Monday Crew!

For those of us in school or have kids in school summer break is almost over. 🏖☀️

Personally I am dying a little inside because my daughter who I have be home with for almost six years starts full time school next week! 👩‍🏫🏫😭

That being the case I have made the executive decision to spend this precious week with her so no new episode. Sorry crew!🧡💙
BUT...after she starts I get to work on The Jolly Reader full-time and I have lots of awesome things planned for it!!!

🧠Mental health is health!
I am so glad the Olympics is currently bring awareness to this.🥇

I am an open book 📖 (pun intended) so I wanted to share my personal mental health with the crew. I hope this makes some of you feel less alone or maybe just put some perspective of why I feel the way I do about different books.

So in 2011(ish) I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease which is no joke and annoys me daily.🤢 Unique weirdo me had a rare side affect to one of the medications so now I have seizures from time to time.

Then in 2019 I finally found the courage to go to a therapist because I felt like I was having more down days than good days. I owed it to myself and my family to feel better. I was diagnosed with moderate/severe anxiety and depression. I know right!?! Me the outgoing Captain Book. You have to watch out for those talkative ones.🗣

Then my first mate was laid off because of Covid so I wasn't on medication or seeing a therapist anymore. Finally we got into a steady situation and I had to talk myself into seeing a doctor again. I don't know why but it is so freaking stressful to see a new doctor especially for mental health reasons. 🩺

So I had my appointment today and it went way better than I expected. I had suspected I had OCD because it was brought up back in 2019 but I was never officially diagnosed until today!

⭐Also just a PSA you don't have to wash your hands all day or need to tap the light switch 27 times to have OCD which is what I originally thought. It turns out I have actually had OCD for as long as I can remember, we're talking 5 years old. Mine specifically is intrusive unwanted thoughts and one of my compulsions involves counting. Luckily now I have a treatment plan moving forward and I couldn't be happier and soon to be less anxious 😃>😰

My physical illness affects me daily but so does my mental illness. I hope this openness has helped someone somehow. I can't wait to keep making new episodes for my crew and have you all get to know me a little better 🧡💙

We decided to take a family trip 🏖 before Ally starts school in few weeks so instead of starting One of Us is Next, I decided to spoil the crew with a bonus episode this week!

Captain Book and The First Mate cover 4 short stories from the book Crime & Mystery Short Stories.🕵

🔪The first story The Cost of Security by Tara Campbell starts with as a husband's murder plot to have his wife ended, and ends with a turntable twist.

☎️The second story Skitter and Click by Jennifer Dornan-Fish will have you questioning everything. This was a hard read about little boy who was murdered but the twist bone chilling ending almost makes it worth it.

⚾️The third story Home Run by Marcelle Dube is an empowering story about how a baseball playing boy named Cooper protects his mother.

💋The fourth and final short story is Suggestive Thoughts by H.L. Fullerton and it is all in the title. This was an interesting story that is difficult to explain and I suggest you just see for yourself with this one.

All in all we had a blast making this bonus episode for the crew. If you have any suggestions for shorts stories you want covered please send a message!
