Did you know that in the early 2010s research for a male contraceptive pill known as the Clean Sheets Pill died a quick and quiet death due to lack of funding? This pill also had the added advantage of reducing transmission of HIV. The reason? The idea of an “invisible” or**sm was seen as emasculating for men. Over the past half-century, dozens of male contraceptive options have been in development but none have been approved due to a variety of undesirable side effects including acne, oily skin, weight gain, mood changes. Skin changes.

“Men are worried about future fertility and about unknown side effects that may only become known years after using a product," says S. Walker., associate professor of contraception at Anglia Ruskin University "They're worried about the effect on their performance, how they feel about s*x."

For any user of the female contraceptive pill, the side effects and concerns will sound familiar. The current pills on the market all have some combination of these. So why is it acceptable for women to regularly experience side effects that can get as severe as depression, lack of focus, nausea, headaches, and more, but it is unacceptable for men? Where do we see the benefits outweighing the costs for men’s contraception? And what would it take to get a third viable option (to add on to 1/ condoms and 2/ vasectomies) to balance the load of preventing pregnancy across both partners?

When did we decide that having knowledge about genitalia equates to not being a child? 🤔💭

There's a pervasive notion that limiting or delaying discussions about genitalia is somehow "letting kids be kids." 🚫🧒 The status quo has been to avoid open conversations about our bodies, including our genitalia. But why do we link having knowledge about our bodies to losing innocence?

By creating this taboo, we're missing out on an opportunity to empower our kids with essential knowledge for their well-being and understanding.

When we allow kids to explore and understand their own anatomy early:
1️⃣ They learn to recognize and assert personal boundaries.
2️⃣ They're able to identify inappropriate behavior and speak up.
3️⃣ They understand diversity, and the normalization of body variations fosters self-acceptance.
4️⃣ We can help reduce stigma, shame, and confusion around s*xuality.

Let's prioritize open, age-appropriate discussions that equip our children with the knowledge they deserve. 💪 Let's break the silence and create a generation that is comfortable and confident in their own skin! 🌟

We can't talk about the importance of correct language as it relates to genitalia, without talking about s*x as well.

🌈 Let's tackle some misconceptions about date r**e.

Consent is important no matter the context❗️ The point of becoming more comfortable with conversations that are considered taboo is that we all feel empowered to speak openly, including when seeking/granting consent. R**e is an act of violation, regardless of the context. We need to challenge the harmful notion that "date" r**e is somehow less severe because it involves individuals who know each other. Consent should never be assumed or taken for granted, even in familiar or intimate relationships.

🚫✋By perpetuating the idea that r**e between acquaintances or partners is "probably just a misunderstanding," we undermine the experiences of survivors and maintain a culture that trivializes the horror of such an experience.

We must prioritize consent education and open communication in all relationships, ensuring that boundaries are respected and actively discussed. Empathy, respect, and ongoing enthusiastic consent are the cornerstones of healthy interactions. 🗣️💞

Let's keep having those "uncomfortable" conversations! Whether it's about consent, genitalia, s*x, or anything else, we all end up better for it.

“Your va**na is SACRED.” How many times have you heard this or a variation of this coming from a loving and well-meaning parent or adult to a child? Let's have an important conversation about the impact of language on our children's relationship with their bodies and s*xuality.

The way we talk to our kids about their genitalia can have a lasting effect on their self-perception and their understanding of s*x. It's vital that we approach these conversations with openness, respect, and *accuracy*. 🗣️💭

Every inch of our bodies holds its own unique beauty and significance. Recognizing that no body part is more sacred than another is essential. 🌟
Elevating a single body part, like the va**na, to such a sacred place can create certain expectations and distort the healthy development of children's body image and self-acceptance. Let's celebrate the sacredness of the entire body, fostering love and acceptance for every part, from head to toe, free from imposed expectations. 🙌💖

Using positive language creates a foundation for a healthy body image and a positive attitude towards genitalia and s*x. 🌺💪 Together, we can help design an environment where children feel safe asking questions and expressing themselves without judgment. 🤝✨

We're not advocating for everything to be shared all at once, all the time. But it's important to remember that our words can shape their beliefs and attitudes towards s*x. 🚫 Menstrual Stigma Ends Here! 🚫

Let's talk more about something most people try to avoid in "polite conversation": the toll of having a menstrual period. It is often underestimated or minimized, leaving women feeling like abnormalities in a world that isn't built for them. 🩸🌍

It's time we speak up about this, plainly and without guilt or shame. We deserve a world where menstrual health isn't stigmatized, but rather understood and supported. No more silently suffering or being told to "suck it up." 💪💜
