Do you believe that the only thing standing between you and blissful happiness is that "one thing" that you need to get or achieve? 🤔
Perhaps it's a job, or a spouse or the perfect body. In today’s How To Do You, Kirsten Powers sits down with actor Josh Radnor, best known for his starring role on the long-running CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” which brought him all the recognition, fame and fortune he believed would solve everything. Spoiler alert: it didn't. That lesson sent him on a fascinating journey. He shares the insights and wisdom he picked up along the way in today's episode of How To Do You.

In this episode we discuss:

✨ Our mutual love and adoration of Richard Rohr and his work.
✨ What it's like to leave a toxic spiritual teacher or spiritual community.
✨ Why getting fired from his first pilot was a blessing in disguise.
✨ Why atheism never appealed to Josh.

In addition to being an accomplished actor, Josh is also a writer, director and musician. You can currently watch him starring opposite Al Pacino in the Amazon Original series “Hunters.”

“I don’t want to be nice, I want to be fierce.” 💪💪💪⁣⁣

This was one of of many major revelations writer Shauna Ahern had when a health crisis forced her to examine a lifetime of putting everyone else's needs before her own.⁣

Shauna was the writer behind the enormously successful blog Gluten Free Girl and authored multiple award winning cookbooks. 📚 ⁣

On the outside it looked like she was living the DREAM. But behind the scenes she was financially stressed and physically and emotionally exhausted. ⁣

After temporarily losing control of the left side of her body and the ability to speak, her doctor informed her that her symptoms were likely the result of too much stress in her life. Then he posed a question that stopped her in her tracks: "Where in your life do you feel not good enough?" ⁣

In today's episode, we discuss the fascinating journey this query launched, which she chronicles in her wonderful book, “Enough: Notes from A Woman Who Has Finally Found It.”⁣

Grief, trauma, insomnia, depression, anxiety, chronic pain and/or fatigue—sadly these things have become far too common in too many lives.

On this week’s show, Kirsten Powers sits down with her friend Miles Adcox, who is the CEO of Onsite, an emotional health center where they use experiential therapy (as opposed to talk therapy) to bring healing with the issues mentioned above—and so much more.

Kirsten personally experienced a major healing of a long-time chronic illness after attending Onsite’s "Living Centered Program," which is a six-day intensive program that is nothing short of miraculous. In this interview, they also discuss how Miles has put a decades-long struggle with depression mostly behind him, as well as how to avoid the number one regret of the dying: that they didn't live authentically.

Do you feel stuck or like it's too late to make a change in your life? 🤔 ⁣⁣⁣⁣

Then meet Sheri Salata! At age 56, after DECADES of a monumentally successful career working at the highest levels for Oprah Winfrey, Sheri realized she had the career of her dreams but not the life of her dreams. So she did something scary: she quit her job and started a life reboot. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

⁣In our conversation for today’s How To Do You, she talked about the things she learned during this process which include: ⁣⁣⁣

✨ MAKE HAPPINESS YOUR COMPASS. This seems obvious, and yet many of us (me included) make misery our compass, which means we know something is deeply wrong with how we are living our life but we don’t do anything about it until we hit rock bottom. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
✨ IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO MAKE A CHANGE: Sheri has shed the word “mid-life” and calls it “middle of life.” We discuss how she transformed her life from top to bottom and ignored the social conditioning that tells us once you hit a certain age your best days are behind you. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
✨ WHY YOU SHOULDN’T GIVE UP. Sheri didn’t land a job working for Oprah until she was in her 30s, and it was an entry-level position. Prior to that she managed a toy store and typing pool and felt like she was never going to get ahead. Sheri eventually became Oprah’s Executive Producer, co-president of Oprah Winfrey Network and president of Winfrey’s Harpo Productions. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
We discuss all this and much much more in today's show, available on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify or your favorite podcast app. 🎙 ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
If you want to learn more about Sheri, follow her at Sheri Salata and check out her book, “The Beautiful No: And Other Tales of Trial, Transcendence, and Transformation.” With her friend Nancy Hala, Sheri is the co-founder of The Pillar Life, a life guidance system to ignite the eight cornerstones of a happy life. The duo also host a fantastic podcast called the Sheri + Nancy show.

How do you find inner calm when it feels like the world is ON FIRE?

Jonathan Foust, a wonderful and wise meditation teacher sits down with Kirsten in today's episode to explain how he went from being a ball of anxiety to a teacher so mellow he's been accused of having "va**um voice."

He also shares why we why we need to get comfortable with discomfort, why you should “bow to your obstacles," how his “body-centered inquiry process” can help you achieve more peace and how meditation can deepen your spiritual beliefs no matter what religion you practice -- or if you practice no religion at all.

A scientific formula for happinesa? Does one exist? 🤔

YES says Dr. , Psychology Professor and host of the wildly popular podcast The Happiness Lab.

Laurie’s biggest advice for attaining true happiness?

Human connection. And NOT just over social media. Phone calls and in-person get togethers do WAY more to soothe the soul than a quick text or “like.”

I am such a fan of Jimmy Kimmel and I loved interviewing him for my podcast Howtodoyoushow. What I love about him is how vulnerable he is in sharing all of himself —tears and all — with his audience. I also love his story of perseverance. He was fired over and over from his early jobs and never gave up because he knew what he wanted to do with his life. At one point his wife said to him, “What’s the Plan B?” She was obviously getting concerned that he kept losing his jobs. He told her, “There is no Plan B. This is it.” The thing that I found to be true in my life and I’ve heard said about other people is the difference between successful people and those who aren’t is that successful people never give up. Behind every successful person there’s usually a story of a lot of failure before they made it. This is something everyone needs to remember when they hit roadblocks or feel like they aren’t getting to where they need to be. When I first started trying to break into TV and column writing it wasn’t easy. A friend said to me “If it was easy everybody would do it.” But looking back I’m glad that I didn’t give up and I hope you won’t give up on whatever dream or goal you’re pursuing. If you need some inspiration, subscribe to How To Do You show to hear my interview with Jimmy. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-to-do-you/id1495368800
