Last night “Lucidity” screened at for the Denver and we couldn’t have been happier with its reception!

This film was such a testament to the amazing teamwork and love shown by the cast and crew of Chameleon Film Studios and we are so proud of it. Even though not everyone involved could attend, our family still felt so much love and was so supported by everyone. Also huge thank you to the Denver 48 hour film project and the Bug Theater for hosting us. Y’all are amazing!

“WE” went to Hollywood!! We are so excited that Chameleon Film Studios was able to participate in the Silicon Beach Film Festival at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Traveling out as a studio was such a fantastic experience and we are so grateful for everyone who has supported us.

Big shout out to JT Melaragno and Tom Svaldi for bringing their all to this film. They took this movie from a 200 square foot basement project to a nationally selected, award winning film. You guys are the best!

This was hands down one of the most fun shoots we’ve ever done. Everyone brought their A-game and the final product is amazing. Come and see it September 16th at 7:00pm at the Bug Theater in Denver!

Update on the progress of our film “WE” in the festival circuit: we’ve got three laurels already and one win! We’ve been lucky enough to snag official selections at the Seattle Wine and Film Festival and the Silicon Beach Film Festival and be selected and win the award for Best Short Film at the Albuquerque Mindfield Film Festival! And this is only our first film!!

Here are some BTS shots of “WE,” Chameleon Film Studios first film!

This film was shot with two actors, three crew members, one mid-level DSLR, one basic lens, two cardioids, and a 200 square foot basement dugout. You don’t need the fanciest equipment or the highest caliber training/experience. You just need a good idea and tenacity. Go out and make a damn film.

Also if you ever have a chance to work with JT Melaragno and Tom Svaldi, do yourself a favorite and hire them. They’re the best of the best.

Fun fact! Before founding Chameleon Film Studios, Matt was (and currently still is) an actor! While his current work has shifted towards film, he has had a long past acting on the stage! Some of his credits (shown left to right) include Benedick in Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” Baggot in Shakespeare’s “Richard II,” Tom Wingfield in Tennessee William’s “The Glass Menagerie,” and Cleante in Moliere’s “Tartuffe.”

We cannot express how grateful we are for this film. What started as a brainstorming session over beers at has transformed into new friends, new opportunities, and a new appreciation for the craft of film making. Here’s to many more.

Phillip Wallace is Chameleon Film Studios’ associate producer, sound mixer, and audio editor. Despite being a wiz with the camera, Phillip’s specialty is audio engineering. With a background in music and a knack for tinkering, he’s been an indispensable asset for the studio. He also built his own boat. There’s really nothing any more interesting that I can say about the guy.

Matt Smaldone is Chameleon Film Studios’ producer, writer, and director. After studying theatre on the East Coast, Matt came back to Colorado just because and not because of a global pandemic or anything. It was actually a good move though as it allowed him the space to experiment with cinematography, practice with sketch idea, and translate his theatre skill set into film. Now Matt is an award winning producer and director with three short films under his belt (and more to come). When not making films, Matt loves to hike in the mountains with his wife, (name tbd), and kids, (insert later), and is known to throw out some line from the old fly rod every now and then.

Hello Instagram! We are Chameleon Film Studios! That’s Matt in the red and Phillip in the blue. Our Colorado-based production house was started when the two of us decided we were tired of waiting for people to ask us to make films, so we decided to make our own. From there we bought a DSLR, hired some actors, and shot our first film in a 200 square-foot basement dugout. We would’ve been happy if our parents were the only ones who watched it. Turns out a few more people were interested. We’ve won awards and have become nationally recognized, being selected for films all across the Western United States. And we’re just getting started. Since then we’ve produced a handful of other films, upgraded our rigs, and gotten even more serious with our productions. Check out this page for updates on what we’re up to and projects in the works!
