Religious leaders are citizens too and by the constitution they are also entitled to freedom of speech but due to the respect they command among their flocks or followers, it is therefore very important that they maintain to be neutral on political affairs and not be biased on account of religion.
Religious leaders should remain non-partisan or their involvement with a sincere purpose should be to criticize, advice, enlighten and admonish the political leaders in the most objective, constructive and civil manner. Otherwise their involvement in politics is very unhealthy for the polity.
In recent times Bishop Kukah of Sokoto Catholic diocese has been one of the active religious vocals in Nigeria. We've heard or seen him talk on different occasions and a couple number of times. What now do you think of Kukah? Is Bishop Kukah being biased or really speaking truth to power?
