The Cloud of Regret
A heavy silence hung over the earth as people gathered in the streets, fields, and rooftops, staring at the sky with a dread they could not shake.
Among them stood Jonathon, his heart pounding. This was the moment—the Lord’s return upon the cloud, just as the prophecies had said. For years, Jonathan had awaited this very moment.
A great trumpet sounded from the heavens, shaking the ground beneath his feet. It was the Lord, majestic and powerful, His presence overwhelming. His eyes blazed with a holiness too intense to face. Around Jonathan, people fell to their knees, some in awe, others in sheer terror.
Jonathan dropped to the ground alongside others, his heart sinking as a terrifying realization washed over him. This was the Lord who had come to purify a group of people, a short while back to make them worthy of entering the kingdom of heaven—and he had rejected Him.
The memories came flooding back, sharp and painful. His closest and longest friend had told him that God had already come back, but not as the glorious figure now standing before him. He had come again as a Son of man quietly, humble and hidden, like a thief in the night, to speak new words from the sealed book and purify His followers, those who truly love Him, preparing them to enter His kingdom. Jonathan, like so many others, had scoffed and rejected Him. How could God, Mighty and Holy, come as an ordinary man? It made no sense to him. None of the pastors or priests in his church had heard, nothing was on TV or radio!?
He remembered the preachers, the warnings, the new revelations that had spoken of God’s work in the flesh. Speaking new words of judgment to make men Holy and innocent again. But Jonathan had dismissed everything he heard or saw. “God will come in Great power and glory,” he had said. “Only then will every tongue confess He is Lord and I will believe.” Only then will He rapture us believers into heaven together.
His heart was filled with agony. This was the same God who had walked the earth in humility, quietly, mercifully, judging and guiding His children into the Holy stream of His living waters of life. The same God he had rejected. He had been offered a chance to be purified, to be part of this group prepared for the kingdom of heaven, and he had turned away.
Around him, the wailing cries of others rose in a mournful chorus. They had all made the same mistake. They had waited for a grand display of divine power, that no one could deny, not understanding that God’s coming in the flesh had been to cleanse their hearts, to prepare a people worthy of entering His kingdom. They had rejected that opportunity, and now, they faced the final judgment of punishment.
Hot tears streamed down Jonathan’s face as he remembered the pride that had blinded him. He had mocked those who had accepted the message, those who had followed the path of purification forsaking the world of things that everyone was doing blindly. His friend had talked about the Lord’s words in the last days, of how He had come to change their hearts, to remove their sinful nature and make them fit for heaven. Even His aunty had tried to talk to Him But Jonathan had dismissed and ignored them all, clinging to his own understanding of God, feeling proud after reading the scripture in the bible several times and even listening to those older clerics and Bishops in the Church discuss these prophecies. Thinking God would make Himself known to them first. How wrong could he be.
Now, he knew it was too late.
The Lord’s voice thundered across the earth: “I came to purify a people, to prepare them for My kingdom. But you did not recognize Me. You rejected the path I offered, and now, the time of judgment has come. He God had Personally arranged those that we know and love to tell us of His arrival.. and He says; “Depart from me you that work iniquity. I Never knew you!”
Jonathan’s heart shattered as the heaviness of the weight of his rejection pressed down on him. All around, people wailed, their faces twisted, gnarled in grief, teeth gnashing together severely. They had each refused to believe that God had come in the flesh to work among them, to prepare them for this very moment. They had been waiting for glory, but the true work of salvation had already taken place—and they had missed it..
The Lord’s gaze swept across the earth, filled with a deep sorrow and judgment. “I gave you My words, but you did not listen. I called you to be purified, to enter My kingdom, but you turned away. Now, only the regret of your unbelief remains.”
Jonathan’s soul screamed in agony. He had been offered salvation, a chance to be cleansed of his arrogance, selfishness, and pride, to be among those who could enter the kingdom of heaven. But he had rejected it, convinced that he knew better, that God would come in a way that matched his expectations, the way everyone had imagined.
As the light consumed the earth, Jonathan realized with horrifying clarity that he had made an eternal mistake. The wailing of those around him echoed into the depths of Hell, a chorus of souls who had refused the truth until today. Until it was too late.
The Lord’s voice rang out once more, filled with both mercy and finality: “The kingdom was prepared for those who heeded My call, who allowed themselves to let go of their own imagination and to be purified. You did not know Me when I walked among you. You clung to your own thoughts and ideas about Me and then turned your backs on me. Now, the door to My kingdom is closed.”
Jonathan’s heart sank, his body trembling. He had rejected the very salvation he had spent his life waiting for, truly believing that he would recognize it when it came. But God had come not in the way he expected, and He’d even told us in 1 Corinthians 1:27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. So God returned in the way that was needed—to cleanse and purify a people, to make them fit for His kingdom. And those He chose to deliver the message to you were your poor cousins, the honest, kind, humble and truthful relatives and friends, those you scoff at and despise behind their back. And now, that chance was gone.
Jonathan whispered through his tears, “I was wrong. I rejected Him when He came to save me.” The Lord, standing in glory on the cloud with all his Sheep, turned His face away from the earth, and Jonathan’s last thought was filled with sorrow and regret: I missed my chance to enter the kingdom. Now, I face the judgment of my unbelief to spend eternity in the depths of Hell.
