Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Emma who had a keen interest in numbers and their meanings. One day, while exploring her grandfather's attic, she stumbled upon an old notebook filled with ancient mathematical secrets. Excitedly, she opened it and discovered a page dedicated to the number 1634.

Intrigued, Emma studied the page and noticed that it provided different representations of the number. The first representation was in word form - "one thousand, six hundred thirty-four." Emma marveled at how the number was described using words, giving it a tangible meaning.

Next, she saw the number in standard form, which was simply 1634. This form allowed for easy recognition and comparison of numbers.

Curious to explore further, Emma moved on to the expanded form. It showed the number as the sum of its place values: 1000 + 600 + 30 + 4. She understood that each digit held a specific value based on its position, and adding those values together gave the original number.

To solidify her understanding, Emma turned her attention to the base ten blocks representation. She realized that base ten blocks were a visual way to represent numbers using blocks of different values. In this case, she saw four blocks representing ones, three blocks representing tens, six blocks representing hundreds, and one block representing thousands. Emma admired how the base ten blocks allowed her to visualize the place value of each digit.

With her newfound knowledge, Emma felt empowered. She understood that the number 1634 could be represented in various ways - through words, standard form, expanded form, and base ten blocks. She realized that place value was a crucial concept that gave numbers their structure and meaning.
