Tonight at 5:00pm EST is the CLIMAX to what was an EPIC mullet run. My best day of the year. Every year we end with a bang. As the GIANT jack migrate up river with cooler air and water temps they chase massive schools of migrating mullet that are taking up residency in our estuaries. It makes for surface feeds and obstruction unlike anything else inshore. Every year the biggest fish migrate last and we end with a BANG. We always seem to break 40lbs on the last day with what seems like the last cast and a fairytale ending. You’ll see me document some insane surface feeds, I discuss everything I’m seeing and looking for and you’ll see a great example of just how crazy the feeding gets. I saw a feed so large that I had visibility of it 1/2 mile away and made it there. I also found my new favorite lure. Thanks guys! If you’ve never caught a 40+ lb jack crevalle, you should.

Fun fact, jack crevalle are part of the Carangidae family. They are the third largest fish in the family, only preceded by the amber jack and giant Trevally. They really are just Florida GT’s.

40+ lb jack eating tuna poppers boat side is a phenomenon that happens frequently during the mullet run. This years mullet run has been different, plenty of footage coming soon, but, last years, so far, was better for me. Hurricane Ian and Nicole pushed hoards of mullet deep into our river systems, this year the warm water temps have kept a lot of them out. Although, I personally think we’ll have a longer run that peaks in November. Curious what this first front will bring. If you haven’t watched the video of this catch, you should. This was also during a previous mullet run when I used to night fish. My biggest snook on artificial. I always mess with my boys that exclusively night fish that catching snook at night is easy. Way easier than during the day, even with live. Today everyone loves these flair hawks. My brother and I used to catch 50 snook a night on bucktails growing up. And real old salts have been using buck tails forever.

World record 🌎 This is still one of the most insane jacks I’ve ever seen. 44lbs and not nearly as long as many other 40 # jack we’ve caught. Just an absolute butterball. When it hit we genuinely thought it was a bull shark. After a long and painful fight got her in. Bruna has broken countless female world records and this is one of them. Her biggest jack is 46lbs and 51” to the tip of the tail. Her PB snook is 43.5” and her PB striper is 30lbs.

🚨Crazy story 🚨
Right place at the right time! My buddy Dave and I decided to go out for a sunset session recently. After putting the boat in the water, I was parking my truck. An older lady knocked on my window, she asked an extremely bizarre question “what do you do if someone on the water is in distress?” Alarmed I replied “call 911 and notify coast guard, why?” She continued to explain that she had seen a wind surfer get swept under the causeway who had fallen. She explained that she thought she heard him yelling for help and struggling to tread water. Some context, the bridge we launched at has a notoriously strong incoming riptide. There is no chance you can swim against it. The tide coupled with the strong uptick in winds would’ve made it impossible. I asked where he was and she pointed, I saw him on his board about a half mile away. I told her I was going to go check on him. He was back up on the board. My buddy Dave and I flew over there and he immediately signaled for help. It was a 53 year old man who had fallen under the causeway and exhausted all his energy trying to swim back against it. After realizing it was impossible he got back on the board and just went with the wind. He was so tired he couldn’t get on my boat for 10 minutes. Dave calmed him down and held him Boat side while I deflated the wind kite. We brought him back to shore. Had he fallen again, he could’ve easily drowned and he was headed away from his launch point by about a mile with out the strength to turn back while gliding near the channel. Help a stranger!

Episode 1 of the Louisiana send is up on my YouTube and it’s awesome. We didn’t do your typical send, we went deep in the marsh. We were fishing creeks that were as wide as the beam, thick grass and vegetation. It was more like bass fishing than anything. Unreal experience. Sight casting fish is something I’ll never get sick of. I definitely don’t have an eye for sun surface sight casting but I can see a surface obstruction from a mile away. Must be the jack/striped bass angler in me. 😂

A very LARGE jack crevalle coming in hot at 36 # - saw her cruising a flat in less than 2’ of water and made the perfect leading cast with the abenz spook and she smacked it. She nearly spooled me, maybe top 5 hardest fighting jack I’ve had. Video dropping soon… maybe tomorrow?.. it was epic.

Big or small I’ll take them all, especially when they throttle a 3oz 8” spook that’s working a sea wall. This was a rare occasion where this slot sized snook beat the jack to the bait. Impressive little guy. Safely released to grow into and aggressive breeder. On the Abenz x poombah spook, we’re sold out but should get more soon!

PB trout on the spook, pretty epic turn of events. I went out with my lite combo, 10 # braid and a pre-cut 20 # leader. Was hunting slot sized snook at best with a 4” spook and I got whacked by this. She fought surprisingly hard, to the point I thought it was a jack but it was a 27” and 7 # speckled sea trout. Swipe for a better shot, we had a fun Topwater sesh, full video on my YouTube now. Fun fact, speckled sea trout are my favorite inshore table fare, I grew up eating them. She was almost family dinner but I wanted to see if she’d release well and she did. I got a 20” fish for the table 1 hour later.

Saw a big head wake cruising the sand bar - crystal clear water and the poling platform confirmed my suspicion, mega jack. The poombah plugs x abenz spook did it’s job. Perfect leading cast, moderate retrieve that was sped up once she turned on it and BAM - she got an Abenz spook mustache. There are several EPIC videos with the abenz spook coming. Big snook, giant jacks, and some other beasts all sitecasted… 👀 caught on on my AL136.0 / Fate combo.

Poombah Plugs x Abenz Fishing Magnum Walkers Available on my site now! I COULD NOT be happier with how these turned out. If you’re from the northeast, you understand the culture around custom wooden plugs and the pride people take in their work. Generally speaking, wooden plugs are poppers, darters, pencils, etc. Seldom do you see “wooden spooks” that have a slow paced “walk the dog action.” This plug is just that. At 8” and 3oz this is the BEST spook I’ve ever used. Hand made and painted in the USA by , one of the most talented plug makers there is. Why wood? It’s not often you site cast a giant wake on a seawall and continue to get a ferocious eat and hookup, and then, pull that fish out from a dock to think it’s over and find out there’s still 20 minutes of hard fighting to go. Stay tuned for Fridays upload. This one was big and the eat was something else. Caught using my casting gear with a concept A3 on locked drag. This little reel has 40lbs of drag. The pre-spawn is in full effect, when you get a 39” fish with these dimensions you know she’s eating and getting ready to spawn. Caught in heavy structure using the new AL13 6.0 and Omen 8’ rod with a mutsu 7/0 - this was nuts and the fight was insane, another reason I know they’re in pre-spawn mode. They fight different before and during spawn.

Spent the last week putting some time and money into the ole girl after deciding I was better off keeping her than selling. Thanks to for the motivation to give her the love she deserved! They did an AMAZING job on the custom kit and install. My brother in law and I spent 5/6hours detailing the boat, inside and out, hatches, rubbing compound, wax, etc etc - my man Alex helped me take care of all motor problems from top to bottom, she’s alive and well… maybe a wrap or some paint next…? 🤔

Tomorrow at 5 pm many dinosaurs are caught including this monster with her hump back. The bigger the bait the bigger the fish. She was rough around the edges but most snook that are 40” or more tend to be. Why? Snook live anywhere from 15 to 25 years and for a fish to reach that size they have some mileage. When they’re back water fish they typically get marked up by barnacles, docks, groves when hunting. Always appreciative of these fish. 2023 has been my best year for giant snook. Particularly fish over 41” - why? That’s a question I’ve been asking myself. I have a theory. The mullet run pattern was disrupted by hurricanes during its peak in my local waters. What does that mean? The mullet that were around sought shelter deep in rivers and estuaries here. They never left. Predators follow the bait. I’ve also approached my fishing differently. New tech helps too. These big big snook forage differently, where I fish, they’re the apex predator, a lot of them are found moving in open water, deeper troughs, they’re not holding as much to structure because there is no fear of predation. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Such an epic shot - sometimes these 34”-38” fish fight the hardest. Why? I’d assume that they’re like the “teenage/young adult” snook. Sometimes those mega 40”+ fish have some serious mileage and are near the end of their life span. This one went hard!
