In what can only be described as disturbing news (for the airframe concerned) James has now checked his logbook and confirmed he not only flew the Wessex based at but also this Puma……. We note a disturbing trend. There is also a Bulldog on site, but it’s in one piece so maybe not one James flew…

The Newark Air Museum also has this example of a Wessex. TLG team member and pilot James, claims to have flown this very aircraft. It’s not clear if, after James got his hands on it, it instantly then became a museum piece or not……And yes that is a Vulcan in the background. As if you needed any more reasons to visit

I’ve been up in Newark on Trent today for a work meeting and this afternoon was very fortunate to spend a really excellent few hours at the fabulous Newark Air Museum. I can highly recommend it. Some wonderful aircraft on display over a big site. There is a great shop and cafe too. This museum needs your support to keep going and to help it acquire some more amazing exhibits on their wish list. Keep up the good work and Top Landing Gear hope to be back again. Jez @ TLG.

But what will happen to her now…….?

On 28 October 2015, over 55 years after her first flight, Avro Vulcan XH558 - the world’s last airworthy Vulcan - flew for the final time.

XH558 is an aircraft of many firsts and lasts. On 1 June 1960, just one week after her test flight, XH558 was the first Vulcan B.2 to enter RAF service. She went on to become the RAF’s longest-serving Vulcan and was the very last Vulcan to retire from RAF service on 23 March 1993.

Wing Commander Bill Ramsey, former OC RAFAT, BBMF Lancaster pilot and last captain of Vulcan XH558, relives XH558's final flight and narrates his thoughts from that day.
