Who are the bankrupt on the Day of Judgment?

Omar ibn Abd Al-Aziz رحمه الله said: “We came across the Salaf (pious predecessors) who did not consider worship in fasting or prayer alone, but rather in abstaining from people's dignity and honor.

So, the one who stands at night in prayer and fasts during the day, if he does not guard his tongue, he will be bankrupt on the Day of Judgment”.

Narrated by Ibn Abi Ad-Dunya.

At-Taubah 9:24

Say, [O Muḥammad], "If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allāh and His Messenger and jihād [i.e., striving] in His cause, then wait until Allāh executes His command. And Allāh does not guide the defiantly disobedient people."

Pleasing everyone isn’t always possible, nor is it required. In fact, it can be draining and you will still end up with haters.
Our objective should always be to please Allāh and His Rasūl (ﷺ): ‘It is more fitting that they should please Allāh and His Messenger, if they are believers’ (Quran).

It is, however, required to keep your heart as clean as possible from malice and hatred towards others. Our beloved Prophet ﷺ said to Anas b. Mālik (may Allāh be pleased with him): 'O my son, if you are capable of (waking up in) the morning and (ending) the evening, while there is nothing of deception in your heart for anyone, then do so.' Then he said to me: 'O my son! That is from my Sunnah. Whoever revives my Sunnah then they have loved me. And whoever has loved me, they shall be with me in Paradise’ (Tirmidhī).

Al-Furqan 25:58
English - Tafsir ibn kathir

And put your trust in the Ever Living One Who dies not,

meaning, in all your affairs, put your trust in Allah, the Ever-Living Who never dies, the One Who

(is the First and the Last, the Most High and the Most Near. And He is the All-Knower of everything. (57:3)

The Eternal, Ever-Lasting, Ever-Living, Self-Sufficient One, the Lord and Sovereign of all things, the One to Whom you should always turn.

Allah is the One in Whom you should put your trust and to Whom you should turn for refuge, He will be sufficient for you and will be your helper and supporter, and will cause you to prevail. As Allah says:

O Messenger! Proclaim which has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His Message. Allah will protect you from mankind. (5:67)

and glorify His praises,

means, combine praising Him with glorifying Him. Hence the Messenger of Allah used to say:

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِك

Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise.

So the Ayah means:be sincere in worshipping Him and putting your trust in Him.

This is like the Ayat:

رَّبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلً

The Lord of the east and the west; there is no God but He. So take Him as a Trustee. (73:9)

So worship Him and put your trust in Him. (11:123)

Say:"He is the Most Gracious, in Him we believe, and in Him we put our trust." (67:29)

and sufficient is He as the All-Knower of the sins of His servants.

means, by His perfect knowledge nothing is hidden from Him nor can anything be hidden from Him, not even a speck of dust's weight

It is important that we teach our children that our role models are the Ṣaḥābah (may Allāh be pleased with them all) and not celebrities, or famous footballers, who one day say something Islamic and the next day openly celebrate Christmas. Youngsters who gain inspiration from such people regarding their faith will shake in their īmān when these people do something contrary to Islam. Hence, Sayyidūnā ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd (r.a.) said: “Whoever wants to follow a path, let them follow the path of one who has died, for the living are not safe from fitnah. I mean the Companions of Muhammad (ﷺ). They were the best of this ummah: the purest in heart, the deepest in knowledge and the most straightforward. Allāh chose them to accompany His Prophet and establish His religion, so recognise their status and follow in their footsteps and adhere as much as you can to their example of conduct and lifestyle, for they followed true guidance” (Ḥayātus Ṣaḥābah).
May Allāh guide us all to the truth. Āmīn.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,

“Do not envy one another, and do not inflate prices for one another, and do not hate one another, and do not turn away from one another, and do not undercut one another in trade, but [rather] be slaves of Allah and brothers [amongst yourselves]. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he does not oppress him, nor does he fail him, nor does he lie to him, nor does he hold him in contempt. Taqwa (piety) is right here [and he pointed to his chest three times]. It is evil enough for a man to hold his brother Muslim in contempt. The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honour.”

I honestly struggle to understand how parents allow their young children to have smartphones with unrestricted access - at times they are only 12-13 years old or even younger! There’s ample of academic research which posits that smartphones are utterly detrimental to a child’s development of mind, their social skills and psychological state. Some research also argues that the addiction of smartphones is worse than drugs. All this research is readily available on the internet. It won’t be misplaced to say that a smartphone can potentially destroy your child’s future. I’ve personally witnessed such cases - and Allāh’s refuge is sought.
Those parents who don’t take any responsibility for this need to wake up lest they become the means of their child’s future entering a dark hole.
May Allāh have mercy upon us all. Āmīn.

On the authority of Abu al-’Abbas Sahl bin Sa’ad as-Sa’idee (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah, direct me to an act which, if I do it, [will cause] Allah to love me and the people to love me.” So he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Renounce the world and Allah will love you, and renounce what the people possess and the people will love you.”

Aal-e-Imran 3:185

Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.

English - Tafsir ibn kathir

Every Soul Shall Taste Death

Allah says;

Everyone shall taste death.

Allah issues a general and encompassing statement that every living soul shall taste death.

In another statement, Allah said,

Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full of majesty and honor will remain forever. (55:26-27)

Therefore, Allah Alone is the Ever-Living Who never dies, while the Jinn, mankind and angels, including those who carry Allah's Throne, shall die. The Irresistible One and Only, will alone remain for ever and ever, remaining Last, as He was the First.

This Ayah comforts all creation, since every soul that exists on the earth shall die. When the term of this life comes to an end and the sons of Adam no longer have any new generations, and thus this world ends, Allah will command that the Day of Resurrection commence. Allah will then recompense the creation for their deeds, whether minor or major, many or few, big or small. Surely, Allah will not deal unjustly with anyone, even the weight of an atom, and this is why He said,

And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full.
Who Shall Gain Ultimate Victory

Allah said,

And whoever is moved away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful.

meaning, whoever is kept away from the Fire, saved from it and entered into Paradise, will have achieved the ultimate success.

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said,

A place in Paradise as small as that which is occupied by a whip is better than the world and whatever is on its surface.

Read if you will,
(And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful).

This was collected in the Two Sahihs, but using another chain of narration and without the addition of Ayah.

Abu Hatim Ibn Hibban recorded it in his Sahih without the addition as did Al-Hakim in his Mustadrak.

Allah said,

The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.

belittling the value of this life and degrading its importance. This life is short, little and finite, just as Allah said,

(Nay, you prefer the life of this world. Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting. (87:16-17)

and,

And whatever you have been given is an enjoyment of the life of (this) world and its adornment, and that (Hereafter) which is with Allah is better and will remain forever. (28:60)

A Hadith states,

By Allah! This life, compared to the Hereafter, is just as insignificant as when one of you dips his finger in the sea; let him contemplate what his finger will come back with.

Qatadah commented on Allah's statement,
(The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception).

"Life is a delight. By Allah, other than Whom there is no deity, it will soon fade away from its people. Therefore, take obedience to Allah from this delight, if you can. Verily, there is no power except from Allah."

It's a debt you must pay...

Our ideas and practice regarding Dua have become distorted. Often it is reduced to the level of a ritual. Dua is an amanah between you and the one who asked from you. It's a debt you must pay with sincerity of attention and purity of intention. The Beloved Prophet ﷺ use to pray of his Ummah everyday. And there is nothing more rewarding than an Angel repeating "same for you" each time we supplicate with sincerity for anyone.
There are amazing examples of our pious predecessors for this tremendous act.

Abu ‘Abdullah bin al-Khatib narrated:
“Abu Hamdun (one of the Tabi’in) had a scroll on which was written the names of three hundred of his close friends, and he used to supplicate for them – one by one – every single night.”
('Sifat as-Safwah' 1/492)

Abu Darda Radiallahu Anha said:
"I ask forgiveness for 70 of my brothers in my prostrations. I mention each by name, them and their fathers."ʾ(Imtina, pg. 166).

May our names be shared in peoples sincere Dua. Aameen

Fatima Bint Muhammad ﷺ

Fatimah the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Khadijah.

She was about five years old when The Prophet received revelation so scholars say “she grew up in Islam.”

One of her nicknames was Ummu Abeeha (Her Father’s Mother), due to the fact that she was always in his company and ready to defend him, just like a mother would do for her child. Once she saw her father while he was in sujood, and `Uqbah ibn Abi Mu`ayt came and placed the guts of a dead animal on the Prophet’s back while he was praying. Fatima ran to her father and removed the filth from his back while she was crying. The Prophet ﷺ saw her crying and said, “Don’t cry my daughter, for indeed Allah will make your father victorious”.

She adopted so many characteristics from her father, that Aisha says, “I have not seen anyone who resembled the Holy Prophet ﷺ more in manners, habits, character and in the method of sitting and standing than Fatimah.” (Tirmidhi)

The Prophet ﷺ had so much love for her that if he would be seated and Fatima would enter he would get up and kiss her between her eyes, all the time.

When Ali and Fatima got married the Prophet ﷺ was involved in their life. Once the Prophet ﷺ went to visit them and found Fatima at home alone, he asked where Ali was, she told him that they were upset with each other and that Ali has left the house.

The Prophet ﷺ went to look for Ali and found him sleeping in the masjid covered in dust. The Prophet ﷺ woke him while wiping away the dust saying, “get up the father of dust”. He did not even ask them what they fought about and instead told Ali, “O Ali come back to your home with me”.

Even though Fatima and Ali were poor they still had a happy marriage. The Prophetﷺ would go to visit them and he would hear their laughter from outside. They had five children.

Fatima was only 28 years old when her father died. She went through a very hard time. She entered upon the Prophet ﷺ when he fell ill, but he was unable to get up to kiss her, as he usually does. So she sat to the right of the Prophet ﷺ while she was crying. The Prophet ﷺ said “bring your ear closer to me O Fatima”, so he whispered something in her ear, so she cried. The Prophet ﷺ again said “bring your ear closer to me O Fatima” and he whispered something else in her ear, and so she laughed. Aisha later asked her after the death of the Prophet ﷺ, please tell me what he whispered to you, she said, “firstly he said “O Fatima I am going to die tonight,” and so I cried, and when he saw me crying he said, “will you not be satisfied that you will be the first from amongst my family to follow me and that you will be the leader of the women of Paradise”, and so I laughed”.

Fatimah died six months after the Prophet ﷺ, and she instructed Ali, “When you bury me to cover me properly, I don’t want anyone to see anything of me, and bury me during the night for I am embarrassed from the multitude of people attending.”.

Ali was very upset by her death and cried a lot. He said, “I have never been more exhausted from anything more than I was as a result of the death of the Prophet and Fatimah within six months of each other”.

Fatimah was the highest example of chastity, honor, modesty, and piousness for all Muslim women.

May Allah make us able to follow her footsteps!

The root problem to most, if not all, spiritual illnesses in society is pride: unjust anger is because one feels their status has been insulted; jealousy is because one feels they should have the blessing instead of the other person; backbiting about other people is because one thinks they are better; looking down upon others is because of pride; so on and so forth. Thus, the ḥadīth expert and spiritual Shaykh of our time, Imām Zakariyya al-Kandhelwi (may Allāh be pleased with him), has written a complete book ‘Umm al-Amrāḍ’ - root of all illnesses - demonstrating the root problem of pride - may Allāh cure our hearts from it. "‏ مَنْ نَزَلَتْ بِهِ فَاقَةٌ فَأَنْزَلَهَا بِالنَّاسِ لَمْ تُسَدَّ فَاقَتُهُ وَمَنْ نَزَلَتْ بِهِ فَاقَةٌ فَأَنْزَلَهَا بِاللَّهِ فَيُوشِكُ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِرِزْقٍ عَاجِلٍ أَوْ آجِلٍ ‏"

Shaddad ibn Aws reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The wise man is one who holds himself accountable and performs good deeds to prepare for what comes after death. The foolish man is one who gives into his lowly desires and seeks their indulgence from Allah.”

Knowledge and scholarship are attained through sitting at the feet of true scholars for many years, and not merely watching videos of social media ‘influencers’ who don’t have any credentials nor a single chain of transmission to the Prophet ﷺ. The latter group of people are in fact detrimental to our dīn as they are taken to be religious authorities and are a sign of the final hour.
Our beloved Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by taking away (the lives of) the religious scholars until no scholar remains. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray' [Al- Bukhari and Muslim].

People can be extremely unreliable. One day they will praise you by elevating you to the skies and then the next day they will bury you in the ground.
Therefore, the best thing to do is to not try and please people but the Creator of the people - Allāh. ‘And Allāh and His messenger are more worthy that they (people) please Him’ (Quran).
Our beloved Prophet ﷺ said: Whoever seeks Allāh's pleasure by the people's wrath, Allāh will suffice him from the people. And whoever seeks the people's pleasure by Allāh's wrath, Allāh will entrust him to the people (Tirmidhi).
Pleasing Allāh alone is much more easier than pleasing different people who most probably will never be happy with you.
May Allāh shower us all with His mercy. Āmīn.

This is one of my favorite quotes. Because of the depth of meaning. Don't keep a tab on all the good deeds that you do, that's something angels are in charge of— So when you do a righteous act, do it with sincerity, then forget about it and move on to the next good deed. When you help someone, do it well and then forget about it, don't remind them of your kindness, and don't hold on to its memory either because Shaytan has ways of polluting even our past good actions, and he seeks victory by destroying not just our current good deeds, but also our prior ones!

So rush to do the khayr and then throw it's memory to the back of your mind, your sea of ideas, and don't think about it. Because Allah (swt) never forgets, and the sea always return it's pearls and contents. 🕊
