@ashaelia shares some solid advice: focus on what you enjoy. Don’t put pressure on labelling yourself and your art, and don’t worry about making a profit at the start of your creative journey.
Instead focus your energy on what you love and building a family and a community around you who support you 1000000%.
We had such an incredible conversation with Asha in our latest episode of the podcast. Her journey is so inspiring: she couldn’t find the type of uplifting, empowering RnB music she wanted to hear, so she made it herself!
With no musical background or prior intentions of becoming a music artist, Asha’s desire to create empowering music has taken her on a journey she never expected. She now has over 40,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and her songs have been listened to well over 1.5 million times.

Sound on // Tessa tells us the story of how a close encounter with a bear (...okay it wasn’t a bear but she thought it was), in the Canadian forest, she found her name for her creative project, The Forest Floor.
Tessa’s love and connection with nature shines through all of her creations, and at the moment she’s focussing on ceramics. These are some of her beautiful hand-crafted mugs. If you live in AUS and want one for your morning coffee, get in touch with her over at @theforestfloor__! She sells them through her Instagram for money, or in a trade for something you’ve made or a service you can offer.

Have you ever been to the theatre in a park? 🎭🌳 Holly is the director of Berlin-based feminist theatre company Thesmophoria - a group of 9 female and non-binary artists who came together to rework a hilarious yet powerful punk-pantomime feminist version of an Ancient Greek play. She's passionate about making theatre more accessible to people of all walks of life, so earlier this year they organised multiple socially distanced performances in outside spaces across Berlin.
Brea and I went to one of the performances and wow. What a fun, moving, different kind of theatre experience!? Would definitely recommend following their journey!

🔊 Sound on // One of the upsides of being an independent artist is being able to write and release your music solely for you.
You don't have to write chart topping bangers if you don't want to. You can write from the heart, and you have the freedom to share your art with the world however you want, whenever you want.
Becoming proud of what you create and share is a huge moment.
This week we chatted with Freddie Dickson about his music journey and going from being signed to a major label, with pressure to create music to tick the label's boxes, and then transitioning to being an independent artist, where YOU call all the shots.

Zainab is an incredible woman who we had the absolute pleasure of having a conversation with on the latest episode of the Art-Work podcast.
She tells us about how she uses music to connect with traumatised refugees across Europe in NGOs and refugee camps. There are huge refugee camps across Europe where families, unaccompanied minors and the elderly have waiting to be accepted into Europe for years. It's a devastating situation and one that needs our attention, especially since the fire in Moria a few weeks ago!
