You might have noticed we've been gone for a while.
We have decided to take a brief hiatus, to focus on issues more urgent than podcast research.
We live in Florida, a state where COVID-19 cases are rapidly rising, and where we, along with our friends and family, are being asked to return to work in person.
We live in America, where civil liberties are being violently denied by a government that has done little to help it's people during this crisis.
We also live in our bodies, and we're having a hard time focusing on writing and research.
This podcast is something we do simply for the joy of it, so we need to take a break and find our joy again. We hope you'll understand, and that you'll still be here when we get back.
Love,
Rachel and Karina

Happy Fourth!💥🇺🇸

Hoping everyone has a safe holiday and takes some time to reflect on what it is to be American. We want to respect the historical significance of this day while also honoring the impact that immigrants, enslaved people, and indigenous peoples have had on this country. Without these important histories and people, America would not be America.

Black Lives Matter.
Our podcast allows us to share stories and educate others on Florida's past, and much of this history is dark and can be disturbing for some people to hear about. But here’s the thing, it’s our responsibility (and privilege) to educate ourselves about the history that others had to live through. It is our responsibility to speak up when those same things happen today, in our communities. Peninsula Obscura is committed to doing better. Here are a few resources that we recommend you support and use in your own research.

About Us.

Many years ago, Karina and Rachel met while working in media production. They bonded over over their love of weird stories and one day, they decided to create a podcast. By combining their love for production and oddities, Peninsula Obscura was born!

Rachel grew up in the Florida Keys. This is where she accrued an interest in spooky tales of old Florida, creepy crime, and her own family tree. On the other hand, Karina is from a small town in North Central Florida. She grew up with a love of folklore, horror stories, and walking through the woods at all hours of the day and night.

With their unique Floridian perspectives, Rachel and Karina share what truly makes Florida America's strangest state.
